Black Bears are like giant dogs.
    #25540941 - 10/16/18 12:49 AM (5 years, 3 months ago)

I think I could have one as a pet if the law allowed it.  Was so strange to shit my pants when woken up in a campground by one and instinct turned me around and I didn't do anything, he, I know it was a he, one can sense such things, ran off woofing like a large dog in a way.  I didn't sleep well that night and went to a truckers place and had them coming in and out all night, but I was safe.

Man told me if it was a grizzley it would of just ripped through my tent and body to get my food.  Playing it safe from now on.  I like the lockers they have at some camps where you lock your food in it.  They actually fine you if you don't.

Buffaloes into camp, they are just curious creatures.  Never would try to approach one or pet it, yet I find them fascinating.

One only gets so many warm times to go places and that time is done.

Dearest Barnaby, you are out of your figgin' mind. Where I live (North East), people have ugly encounters with these beasts. A couple years ago a Rutgers NJ college student got mauled and killed by a black bear. Last year a black cuddly dog-like friend ripped the door off my cellar and tried to get in MY F'N HOUSE, because it smelled garbage that I put there until morning (it was snowy and icy, so I put it off 'till the morn).

Do what ya want, but your perspective is fucked (please don't get butt-hurt, I'm just trying to make a point -this ain't personal). Don't underestimate mother nature -'cause she don't give a shit. 10 or so years ago this family whose son I went to high school with, found an abandoned baby raccoon and adopted it as their family pet. This little beast crawled into the crib of their 3 month old baby and chewed off three fingers. I'm not making this shit up.

Think twice my friend -because honey -badger don't give a shit. Didn't mean to crap on your parade my friend, I'm just telling it like it is.
Be smart, watch yer back, etc. ...

haha I woke up to one about 2 feet away from my face.  I just blinked, looked at it eye to eye and said good morning.  It took a couple sniffs and  then kept walking along its path

https://www.sltrib.com/news/nation-world/2018/10/15/grizzly-attacks-hunter/

Grizzlies scare the hell out of me.  Funny story about two hunters in Montana and a comedy of errors.  Both of them maced themselves with bear mace, that level of pain after a Grizzly bites and breaks ones arm then to do that to yourself, wow.

And I wouldn't joke about it if they weren't both alright.  Don't really care for hunters but still I hold no ill will towards them, just not people I choose to be around.

My buddy used to carry bear mace around.  Then at a party some people wouldn't leave..  So he pulled it out and hosed down 3 of them with it.

Black bears do kill people, they are a large predator.  I had to tell a mom this summer that the national forest is not a petting zoo and to get her kids back in the car.

They are also fucking delicious, still trying to fill that tag this year!

Also, super cute.

I wouldn't call them cute.  Who the hell is stupid enough to try to pet one?  This one was definitely not afraid of people and what I would say would be like a teen in age for it.  Yes, they will attack people but mainly only if is a mother protecting her cub.

Strange experience.  Bought a key chain of a black bear at Donnor, yes they have a park there commerating the Donnor Party  which is weird in itself but I learned a lot.  They have a nice theatre that explains all of it in Cali.

God, it really wanted my food and could of really messed me up.  It was dark and, being a black bear it ran off woofing like a giant dog then stood up just 10 yards from me and wouldn't move.  I could only make out the outline of this bear.  Was surreal in a way.  Just kept expecting it to charge me.

So put on one, shoe, then the other, always looking at it from the side of my eye.  Glad I didn't set up my tent that night, just slept in my bag.  And slowly walked away, thinking if I get mauled I get mauled.  Interesting experience but really shook me up.

Will be on the lookout for squirrel fur in the feces.  That made me laugh.  Good info though.  When I told my story to an old timer he showed me a device that would basically blow out ones eardrums if used when I asked to use it, as I was curious.  It was like a one time deal in a small cannister.  That is what I will buy and take next hiking season if everything isn't on fire again.

Black bears rarely ever attack or kill people but they can...I guess dogs can too though so maybe they are just a giant dog lol

They are hard on our moose population around here, they take calves down pretty easy.  So cute.

I’m not scared but sure as fuck am not going to try to pet one.

I think on jackass they used bear mace once on one of the cast.  Knoxville said compared to tasers, both kinds, mace is the best as one cannot function for 15 minutes.  So I will take him up on his advice.

Still makes me laugh to think of Hunter Thompson going through an Aspen bar shooting it into peoples eyes to get to Johnny Depp.  Fuck Aspen and the elites.

Seriously though, I will take some after this long and boring, cold Winter is done.
