is it worth it?
    #2554023 - 04/13/04 12:47 PM (14 years, 14 days ago)

Yesterday i was driving around to locate new shroom fields, and low and behold i found a nice lil patch. But a patch of what? I was originally lookin for cubes, since that is what im most likely to find in my area(texas). Anyways, this patch didnt seem to be cubes at all but some other kind of white mushroom growing in a well fertilized yard. Im hoping to pick them tonight and post info on spore prints, pics and other details later. I was just wondering what species this might be, so that i can easily identify the spore prints. I just kinda wanted to get an idea of what they might be before i go pick, because the actual extraction might prove quite difficult, due to neighbors, fences, and dogs. Any help is appreciated.

How big were the mushrooms? Generally lawn mushrooms are not going to be psychoactive.

They are probably some sort of poisonous Lepotia or Agaricus.

Not worth getting yelled at or driving, unless you are simply curious about mushrooms in general...WHICH IS GOOD!

Yeah, I was thinking along the lines of Chlorophylum molybdites.

Thats exactually what they probably are...There are a bunch of them in the Houston area...I checked some out this morning in hopes they might be Macrolepiota procera but they had dark grayish spores.

Yea, i figuired that they werent halucinogenic, but it was worth asking, because when it comes to shroom hunting.... The more you know, the safer it is. From the road, i thought they might've been cubensis, but the copper color on top was missing, therefore making me wonder. The weird thing is, they were growing in a circle. Not like a ring, but like a shaded-in circle. It was a pretty big group, 15-20, for such a small area (1/2 acre). Yea i know that doesnt mean much, but it's interesting. From what i could see, the cap was snow white, with a ball shaped cap. Extraction is scheduled for tonight, then i will post detailed info for a possible i.d. By the way, I've never heard of Macrolepiota procera, and i dont remember seeing it listed in the faq's. So if anyone could describe this species to me, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Macrolepiota procera is a choice edible ..it is called a parasol also
There are several that look a lot like a Macrolepiota procera that are very toxic so make shure you get a id from Angryshroom,Toxicman or Gumbydude ...there are a few more experts here that can id properly
There were tons of Chlorophyllum last spring also..I wish they werent toxic
