Very good question, definitely keep them side by side!

We want to know how many people voted up and how many voted down.

Suppose:

Post A gets a -1.

Post B gets 10 +1 and 11 -1 and therefore also shows as -1.

We will never know that people felt so strongly about post B because the 10+ are censored away by 11-. A determined troll campaign can nullify or boost a guys ratings and none the wiser.

Its important to know whether a ost was controversial because controversial posts are often on the borders between two paradigms. Controversial posts are usually, important posts.
