possibility?
    #2553856 - 04/13/04 09:31 AM (20 years, 7 days ago)

alright so here it goes...i put everything i needed into a jar, then i coudlnt sterilize them because i didnt have pressure cooker and i was supposed to get a cooker one day later. Well that never happened and i had to go away for easter, so its been about 6 days since i put all the shit in the jar. I just boiled them today in a pot....would these still work or did too much h20 get lost? i mean i have plenty of spore solution so i want to know if there is even a possibility these would work....also how long should i wait after boiling until innoculation?

well i dont know if ur jars are good, can't  really tell u but the other day i had jars sitting for 2 days, and since im so paranoid i tossed the mix and made a new mix, fresh as i like to call it lol, and about the inc. question, u should wait until jars are back at room temp, i usually pull em out of the PC and then throw em in the freezer and inc. /g2g and it works great.

good luck buddy

If they are PF jars and you had tape/foil over the holes in the top they are fine,if they are grain jars with pollyfill, well chances are they are fine too..If you steralized them today and your steralization process is done well, you should have no problems.

Exan I would be carefull taking them out of the PC and placing in the freezer. They have a good chance of cracking if they are hot enough when you put them in there.Just a thought.

at least 6 hours just to be safe, after all what is a few more hours. If they are to hot and they kill the spores then you waste all that time and effort for a measly 2 or 3 hours.I usually wait overnight ,but thats not really needed, its just because of the time i start them is at night so its easier in the morning.
I would wait 6 hours if you can, like i said they may be cool in three, but whay risk it,just because they feel cool on the outside, doesnt mean they are cool. The middle may still be warm.

My first batch of pf jars are fruiting right now as we speak. I steralized and then waited 3 days before innoculation and had a 100% success. As long as those babies are covered they shouldnt loose any h20 and I would imagine are just fine to steralize now.

You can remove from the pot-just wrap them in a towel to keep in what heat they have--but dont innoculate them until they have cooled completely-I wait over night

yes you can just take something else like a large cardboard box,or better yet a large plastic garbage bag. and spray it with lysol if you have it.Then stck your jars inside and close it or tie it up.then just place out of the way.I just stick them in my incubator with the heater turned off. There is no reason to keep the heat in,you want them to cool, not stay warm.

Do you mean you had unsterilized substrate in a sealed jar for 6 days? That is plenty of time for bacteria to take over. Personally I would have made them over...

yes, but that wasnt the thing i was questioning...i was questioning wether or not i had lost water, which would throw off the whole formula for the proper growing needs, sterilizing them kills the bacteria, so that wasnt the factor
