What do you think about clowns?
I think...deeply when we look inside ourselves, you will find that we are all clowns.

Clowns are horrible things.
My best friends mom was gifted tons of clown related art and stuff when she was younger and I guess all her friends thought that meant she liked it, so they kept getting it for her. Now, these are things like fancy clown statues and paintings. Most of them are not nearly as 'cute' or 'funny' as you would think. ESPECIALLY to small children.
Many a night of terror was spent when I would spend the night at his house growing up. Go to the bathroom after bedtime. SURPRISE. HALLWAY CLOWN MAKES YOU PEE YOUR PANTS.
Want a snack? Managed to sneak past hallway clown? HAHAHAHA! KITCHEN CLOWN GANG IS WAITING.
Fuck clowns.

You are kinda right, but rarely anyone admits that we revolve around the most "mundane" things, just to occupy that void, instead of embracing it. Ridi Pagliaccio.
But you North Americans are really, really really really fond of clowns and how scary they are. I can't relate, maybe because we don't have many clowns here.

The thing is, when you are a small child even "normal" clowns can be scary as fuck. For example:

These types of clowns are weird as fuck when you're a tiny kid. Shit scars you. lol.

The Clown or the Jester is one of the great archetypes. One I'm really fond of, along with how creepy and weird they are.
I'm not sure where the kids' birthday party clown really comes from, or how we got from Commedia dell'arte to this, but hey, a lot of kids' entertainment is really deep traumatic archetypal stuff, so I guess why not clowns then.
The Clown is kin to the Faerie. An otherworldly being, or a human taking on the guise of an otherworldly being, that pushes the boundaries of normality and reality. The clown makeup is designed to evoke absurdity, turning its wearer into a symbol. Becoming the clown is similar to Superman taking off his glasses - it's not something you put on, it's something (societal expectations and conformity) that you take OFF, and assume the inherent free trickster quality of your Spirit.
By engaging people in a semi-nonconsensual way (which is one of the reasons people find clowns disturbing), clowns show how arbitrary and weird our societal rules, our everyday pursuits are, and what we're missing by immersing ourselves in the Spectacle.

With my abysmal knowledge i only partially agree, the ancient Jester is much more than the stereotypical modern clown, and has not much to do with the Trickster, purely on an historical point of view.
The Jester's role in medieval courts was very broad, and ranged from entertaining the guests with music and poems that were on the more popular side of culture, he of course acted, and his peculiar role allowed him to really set free the Word, the Truth, in front of who others weren't allowed, such as powerful men, like the kings etc.
Jesters actually started Italian Poetry in Sicily,a new parallel to the Latin one, just because they were the 'less knowledgeable'ones.
The stereotypical clown today is even dumber than the Commedia dell'arte one, who was even at the time, only fit for vulgar peasants. Totally subdued to his own mask. This made me recall Picasso's pink period, with those sad circus people.
Your post is surely worth and has an insight in matters that I'm not informed well,I'm just debating the current clown status.
I went too far

Quote:
For people who are as poor as us, who have lost everything, who had to endure so much death and sadness, laughter is a precious gift. When we were dying like flies from white man's disease, when we were driven into reservations, when the government rations did not arrive and we were starving, watching the pranks and capers of Heyókȟa were [sic] a blessing.
— John Fire Lame Deer[2]
https://www.theamericanconservative.com/dreher/what-is-a-holy-fool-dostoevsky-vodolazkin-laurus/
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heyoka
Quote:
Heyókȟa have the power to heal emotional pain; such power comes from the experience of shame—they sing of shameful events in their lives, beg for food, and live as clowns. They provoke laughter in distressing situations of despair, and provoke fear and chaos when people feel complacent and overly secure, to keep them from taking themselves too seriously or believing they are more powerful than they are.[3]
Quote:
Unbound by societal constraints, heyókȟa are able to violate cultural taboos freely and thus critique established customs.[4] Paradoxically, however, by violating these norms and taboos, they help to define the accepted boundaries, rules, and societal guidelines for ethical and moral behavior. They are the only ones who can ask "Why?" about sensitive topics; they use satire to question the specialists and carriers of sacred knowledge or those in positions of power and authority.
https://www.ncronline.org/blogs/eco-catholic/more-about-holy-fool
Quote:
In Lakota mythology, Heyókȟa is also a spirit of thunder and lightning. He is said to use the wind as sticks to beat the drum of thunder. His emotions are portrayed opposite the norm; he laughs when he is sad and cries when he is happy, cold makes him sweat and heat makes him shiver. In art, he is depicted as having two horns, which marks him as a hunting spirit.[6]. In some visions, he also appeared as a snow bird, a swallow, a horse, a dog, a night hawk, a frog, or a dragonfly.[7]
Quote:
We draw the lightning as a forked zigzag, because lightning branches out into a good and bad part... In our Indian belief, the clown has a power which comes from the thunder beings, not from the animals or the Earth. He has more power than the atom bomb, he could blow off the dome of the Capitol. Being a clown gives you honor, but also shame. It brings you power, but you have to pay for it."
EDIT: The government uses sacred clowns, just as kingdoms used court jesters. Some clowns are also warrior clowns and will go into battle and be quite effective. The holy fool, or sacred clown, is one which has reached a state of enlightenment through hardship and trauma. The government uses their supernatural abilities for black operations when it can. Part of the gang stalking phenomenon is to identify and create sacred clowns similar to heyokas with the ability to control reality.

There's nothing more humorous than the truth. The real clowns, jester, ect that "get it" are highly intelligent; communicating through the unique filter of their personality/character they perform pure honesty. Good or bad, the ones most able to maintain a complete view are able to detail our current issues right down to our very existence with razor like truth and irony. The ying/yang of existence bring both in its humbling, humorous, depressing impossibility of understanding the infinity of existence in its entirety. Such simple possession of limited senses. The deeper the connection, the deeper the emotion. They are often depicted as having extremists to every degree. From giving their soul to make the audience laugh, to the deepest depths of depression.
Fuck what is being discussed here: pedos who use the cover of a Halloween style Clown to butcher, no pun intended, the true clowns/jesters. Between those demons among us; and the countless Hollywood slasher movies solely depicting them as motivated by some specific make-up/costume and random violence with no sense of anything.
In the days of kings, all the wise through history were both close with real "clowns/jesters", and one of their most beneficial tools to continually evolve both their personal control as well as their methods to maintain their people in their "rightful place". As time goes on now. Our "democratically elected" current form of government relies more on using our most important knowledge/technology hidden and always far ahead before sharing methods no longer anywhere near ground-breaking. No wonder all our real, honest, jester like characters are expressing almost polarity levels of opposition due to the increasing exponential levels of dishonesty in our "Leaders".

Sahara - For All The Clowns (1975)
-------------------- Don't worry about me, I've got all that I need. And I'm singing my song to the sky You know how it feels, With the breeze of the sun in your eyes. Not minding that time's passing by I've got all and more, My smile, just as before. Is all that I carry with me I talk to myself, I need nobody else. I'm lost and I'm mine, yes I'm free
