My friend used to baby sit Neal Pert’s kid back when he was in high school. One day he was taking care of the kid when someone came and delivered a package. When Pert got home he opened the package. It was the album art for Power Windows.

Anyways, I like trees

Yeah that song is incredibly good. Everybody that hears it seem to like it.  It's mystical. I think it's a masterpiece because it actualy makes me think of trees and nature in general. Being lost in a magical forest of some kind

Styx played at my Dad's high school. He said they weren't very good at the time from what he could remember, granted they were still playing at high schools at this time.

Yeah they put on a good show but they have voices made for a studio. Not everyone can sound like Robert Smith or David Gimour live.

Speaking of the cure. Their first album was pretty solidly prog. “A forest” is a great example of that. Robert Smith still sounds the same now as he did in 1978.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers played on the quad my first year of college. Nobody but the really hip knew who they were.

Steve Hillage 'Fish Rising'. Steve was still under the influence of Gong while recording this. Late seventies but still holds up -my personal Fav. BTW Koods, you must have an awesome Mom.

Genesis put out some great prog rock albums back when Peter Gabriel was the lead singer with Phil Collins on drums.  This is my favorite by them :smile2:

Relayer is one of those Yes albums that i didn't like until after listening to it about 5 times.  Same thing with Topographical Oceans album :smile2:

For all you Yes fans check out Badger, it was a one off sideproject from one of Yes's keys players. They only recorded a single live album that was actually the opener for a Yes concert, great stuff:

It's more classic rock then prog rock, but it has some prog elements.

Øresund Space Collective - The River Flows Thru Me

OSC is a collective of European and American musicians that play improv heavy space rock. They've released a ton of different albums covering a huge range of styles, they have a few core members that switch up but each album has a different line up and some are very unique.

Definitely a classic, has Roger Dean art as well.

It's a shame badger only recorded that one live album, they put out a second studio album but with mostly different musicians and it is much more pop oriented :shakefist:

Here's a more recent prog album with tons of great classic influences:


Astra - The Weirding (2009)

Don't let the date fool you, for coming out in 2009 The Weirding sounds like it came straight from the 70's. Sounds like a mix of all sorts of great classic prog bands.

And here's a great modern jam band with some heavy prog influences:


Chris Robinson Brotherhood: Vibration & Light Suite live

CRB is more classic/psychedelic rock but they get pretty progressive at times. Vibrations and Light suite is one of their longer/spacier tunes.

Here's another very underrated 70's prog rock group:


Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Buddha (1974)

They got more poppy into the 80's but their earlier stuff is very classic/progressive. Manfred Mann is a great synth player, her's one of my favorite tunes:
