Church of The Mushroom
    #2545788 - 04/10/04 01:45 AM (19 years, 11 months ago)

Just finished browsing thc-minstry.org, and I think it's about time sacred mushrooms had some form of religious organization, to combat abusive fascists. Peyotl has the NAC, Ayahuasca has Vegetalismo and Santo Daimo, cannabis has the thc-ministry. Teonanactl is an ancient sacrement and deserves such as these others have gotten. In conjuction with membership in something like universal life church, this could prove an worthy and effective cause. Of course I am talking of a serious religious movemt, not just a cover for "druggies" or some silly thing like that. Perhaps even one church to cover many sacrements, such as San Pedro and Peruvian Torch, as well as the previously mentioned ones. My pfocus of interest here though, is the mushroom.

just a thought.

There are already a couple of churches devoted to mushrooms.
One is completely legal and has been for many years.

The Church of the

"Fane of the Psilocybe Mushroom."

This is a church in Britsh Colombia, Canada which founded its charter before the law regarding illicit drugs became enacted in Canada.

Since the Church made its charter before the law went into effect it was exepmpt from the statues regarding drugs as are all of its members.

There is also a Copelandia Church somewhere in the U.S.A. but I heard they had a few busts. Not sure about where to find info.
But the Fane has a website at:

http://www.thefane.org

My religion is in the works, it may be at least a few years before it's ready to be considered a religion though.

It is my religion. Growing them is an essential part of it for me though, it is sacred and gives me faith. I call The Mushroom into my growing spot, envoke the spirit. And I visualize and send the mushrooms my energy- i pray for them in a way. And it has worked, they grow.

But (and perhaps now I'm moving the thread more to S & P than General Questions) - do you really think that mushrooms alone are enough to base a "religion" upon? I love mushrooms, I have learned so much through them, had wonderful experiences with them (not even mentioning all the good shows  ). But - to me, mushrooms are a tool in my spiritual growth, just like meditation, yoga, reading, thought, etc. They aren't a "religion" in and of themselves, but are more of a tool to the general beatific vision. Do you feel that mushrooms alone (or any "drug" (quotations because i don't think the psychedelics are "drugs" in the traditional sense at all)) are a "religion"?

funny u should post this here, posted something similar in the S and P section about psychedelics and the bible, i feel the same way you do krishna. i think some of the bible stories definatly represent some sort of psychedelic experience in them if not most or all

I think they are an important sacrement, although to have them as the pure basis of a religion might leave it a little lacking. Mostly what I'm getting at is an institution with legal rights, which extend to its members, to allow the use of certain sacrements, rather than just a vague religious idea.

All of you should go tot he Fane of the Psilocybe mushroom site whose URL is posted above and read their charter which shows what their church is about and see why Canada allowed it to be legal.

Mushrooms are a great canidate for a religion...your religion isnt based on the mushrooms, but what the mushrooms have to teach... Mushrooms are the only pschedelic where I have experienced complete ego-loss and a complete connection with my universal self...I'm sure other substances could do taht as well, but mushrooms showed me it first and will forever have a place in what I consider holy.

They have taken me to level 5 on my first encounter with them...it was the awakening for me...and I will never be the same.

Mushrooms are very natural- a spiritual trip. One of the best things is the introspection of self on the come down. There is something that Mckenna calls exophermones- they travel outside of species boundaries, like telepathy in a way. Growing them is an essential part of the religion too.

Its mainly your aproach. They can be something sacred and holy, or they can be something to take that "the show". A festival would probably cool tho.

they are a gift from the Creator and are indeed holy, and should be treated with the ut most respect. as for me i choose to keep it prayerful to my creator and not the creation

Although I am not a member (yet), it is my understanding that they have the religious righ to cannabis, and upon joining you receive tags for your plants,a membership card, etc. and if you run into tlegal trouble, they pledge to get you off, hence the high joining fee. They claim no member of theirs has been convicted so far.
