Hmm, okay maybe this will explain it.

Can we use the term love for feelings that are not super intense? I feel like the term "affection" works well to essentially describe the feeling of love but with less intensity. Sort of like how saying you are angry is a less intense form of rage. The thing about the article you posted is that it doesn't distinguish in terms of intensity and uses the term love for feelings that may not be intense enough to fall under that definition.

ive told select friends i love them in front of other friends

Those are people i would want to do anything for because they mean that much to me regardless of their fuck ups.
