First time grain (rye)

I soak rye for 18h, boiled for 10 min and let it decant in strainer.. after 1.45h in PC, PC runs dry for few mins (i noticed after min or two), there was layer for tinfoil and lids under jars... after 8 hours of cooling with weight on i checked jars and they looked like this :

Are they to dry?
Also there is few (3-5) of rye that pop, problem?

I would guess they are fine the only way any would have popped is if they had enough water in them to cause them to pop. Remember the majority of water should be on the inside. With that being said they do look dry form the pic. I soak for 24 hours and pc for 1.5 hours. I would use them if it were me. I am sure they will colonize. Rye is way to expensive I would go with whole oats $15 for 50 lbs. I think they are easier to prepare. I soak them for 24 hours strain for at least 15 min to an hour then into bag an PC no simmer.

They look a little dry to me but it's hard to tell from the pic. It sounds like you did everything correctly, however, so I would say go for ahead an inoculate them.
Boiling the rye until a few pop is standard practice. No big deal at all.

Ye, i gave them like 20-30 min in stainer to make sure not to get wet spots... few of them in jars staid Inflatable like after boiling and most of them looks dryer then before i put them in.. i never saw rye grain jar with my own eye so i m confused.. i though they supposed to look inflatable after PC.. now they are at the middle of full dry size and wet size

I think you dried them out a little with no water in the pot dry heat will do that. You got lucky that you didn't warp your PC. I strain my rye until they are cool to the touch then load them in jars and PC. They should still have enough water in them to proceed in my opinion.

If you are willing to sacrifice a jar open it up and see if they are moist inside the grain. Then you will know for sure. But I doubt you need to do that. I would also use more grain in my next batch. I do 11 cups for 10 jars and fill them 2/3 the way sometimes even more.

Remember once they are colonized to save at least 1 jar back to do a G2G transfer in the future this will save you time.

yep there is no standing water on the bottom of the jar that I see. The only water I see is where a couple grains are pressed against the glass. shake the jar up before inoculating.

They pick up most of the water from the soak the boil is to just steam off the excess water from the outside of the grain. That is why you shake the strainer to get the grain in the middle to the outside so they can steam off the excess water if you don't shake you will end up with wet grain in the middle of the strainer. If you boil longer you are just going to pop grain and be more likely to contaminate. That is why I soak for 24 hours and simmer for 10 mins I don't boil. Again the simmer is just to get the grain hot to the center so you can steam off the water on the outside.

Typically 30mins is ideal. 10min is pretty short.
But it depends on the grain. I still think it was undercooked, but should colonize anyway since its close.

lets hope for the best..
one off topic question.. when putting dry shrooms in zip bags with desired dosage, should i left ziplock open when putting them in glass jars with desiccant, i dont know will i screw desiccant effect if i sealed them.. Can i use magnesium chloride as desiccant for storage?

If anything they may be a little wet but I don't think so I am sure you have already inoculated but if not you can take your jar and slowly turn it till grain is on the lid if a lot of grain sticks to the glass on the bottom they are to wet if they flow easily you are good to go.
