Edible Macrolepiota procera ?

Habitat:
Trooping. Sheep grazing pasture among dried up dead gorse and thistle 400m

Gills:
Creamy White, crowded, free

Stem:
14cm in length. Scaly with superior movable ring. The interior of stem is made up of thin fibers similar to mycelium imo, bulbous at base.

Cap:
Cream in colour with brown fiberous scales easily removed by rubbing, initially closed sort of egg shaped becoming umbonate. White flesh.

Spore print color:
None as of yet. Trying to get a print from the young specimen as the older ones have dried. Will leave overnight to see if any drop but it’s not looking likely as it’s been printing a number of hours now.

Bruising:
None

Other information:
No distinct scent. Tastes pleasantly sweet. I note in the image the gills have a pink hue to them but looking at it here now they’re creamy white

I think spore prints are required for these kinds of mushrooms because young Chlorophyllum Moldibytes can look almost identical without the greening gills.

You'll have to let it print over night. While C. molybdites isn't generally found in Ireland (or northern Europe in general) it is
apparently believed to be spreading.

I spoke with Else C. Vellinga about this recently, C. Molybdites has been found in Green houses in the UK, but not in the wild. The most recent appearance of C. molybdites in Europe was in Spain and I'm not sure if it was in a green house or in the wild.

Interesting thanks Doc. Found another troop of these on a golf course this afternoon so they must be fairly common. They were also dry and didn’t smell the best so I left them.

I really appreciate all the help you’ve given me the past couple of months. I note you’re seeking lib prints to further your research, I’d be happy to send you a couple as a token of my gratitude.

The easiest way to tell these are indeed Macrolepiota procera and not Chlorophyllum molybdites is to just look at the stipe. No printing necessary. :smile: If it has a "snakeskin" pattern then it's Macrolepiota, all Chlorophyllum species have silky smooth white stipes.
