I have been talking to a few people about installing a cut off circuit for there steam sterilizers so here is the circuit. This circuit does two things it protects the controller and cuts off the power if water is low. Without the relay you will blow your controller. I am using a 1500 watt element that is why I only used a 15 amp relay...

I thought I should mention this circuit also save on electricity. My element only runs 45 minutes out of an hour and turns on below 205 and off at 208. I set it and come back in a couple days and unpack when cool.

All I can say is it works perfectly. I will put up a video of it working and turning off the steamer in a day or two. A good point to make is the switch cannot turn off the element before the float valve starts to fill the drum if it does then it could turn off and not turn back on because its water will not be being replenished and the element will be off so water will not be being evaporated. I hope that makes sense.

Very cool mate. Not sure if we've had an exhchange yet so I'm pleased to meet you I'm just getting back into the game and i have to say this kind of electronic stuff is one area of large scale production that I still dont totally grasp, so thank you for sharing this build with us. How many runs have you done on it? I didnt have my outlet/wire/element stuff right on my first go at a 55 gal- luckily it just popped the Sylvania - later got everything matched up but decided to just plug and unplug manually as id generally be at the farm doing work anyways while it was nearing the end of the cycle. Could you possible run a similar setup that could cycle through multiple sterilizers so that you could run say 3 one after the other in ato find a place I can even run my 55g row on the same outlet so you dont overload it? My biggest issue currently trying to run my ou55gal is ght about t finding a place to plug it in without calling out an electrician on a rental house, so if I can find a place to run it id like to be able to prep more than one run at a time and bang out 3 runs as quickly as possible.
Ps my phone is busted bad sorry for a few gibberish lines.

I have been doing 2 runs a week for over two years with everything but the low water cut off. I just had a problem where I cut off the water and forgot to turn it back on and almost burnt up my element so I installed the low water cut off. Do you know how big the breaker is on the outlet is it 15 or 20 amp? Or are you lucky enough to have a 220-volt outlet with higher amps. All this will depend on what you are able to do. I will try and help you figure out your best option once I know that info.
