Just went out and got a 10 gallon rubbermaid container to do a bulk grow in. Ive got 2 small grain mycobags fully colonized which i plan on using with just straw. What I am still puzzled on is..
-How much straw should I use? -Would 2 small grain mycobags be enough? -Is a 10 gallon container ok, or should i move up to the 18 gallon? (the Sterlite brand from Wal-Mart)
Thanks for help.

I'm looking into starting my first bulk grow, and I was wondering what are the pros/cons of using just poo or just straw? I've been looking around the bulk grow sections, but I'm at a loss as to which is the "best" technique.
If anyone could give me some advice (as to which technique I should use to get the biggest flushes and most potent fruits, and sorry, I know you've heard that before) I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

ya that will be fine but if you want potent and bigger shrooms go with poo (horse if possible) if you can get some. start with a ten then go bigger later no need to jump the gun plus you have 2 small grain bags so a 10 gallon will work just fine

Your spawn should be at least 10% volume per substrate (the more spawn, the shorter the spawn run). So, I guess intermediate algebra stuff will determine how much sub and which container size to go w/ in the future .

Hey thanks for the tips. Finally got around to doing it last night. I used the 10 gallon with 2 small grain mycobags of spawn. When i tried chopping the mycellium in the blender it wouldnt completely chop up so i broke up the rest by hand. I followed one of the bulk teks, i think Shroomgod's, by laying down one layer of straw, then a layer of substrate, etc. I think i might of used to little straw though because i still had a bunch of straw left after using up all the substrate. Anyways.. I feel pretty good about this though, but the only thing im concerned about is contams .

I like horseshit and straw, topped with a layer of horseshit, for growing. I pick first flush, then take lid off mister and drowned that fucker with h2o, then open a bag of verm. cover with a bit under 3/8" layer of it, then I soak that by dribbling h2o on it and misting. Here is part of a flush from three days ago:

I wish you the best with your own attempts.

Just remember to use 4-6 inches of substrate. I used these aluminum pans that you can get that are about 2 inches deep, and the mushrooms I got where really small. Il never do that again!

Sraight straw usually is more susceptible to contams and nutrient loss. A mix of poo and straw is the best and most attainable method.
