Cutting Cakes

Hey, ive got some cakes that are about half to 3/4, or maybe even a little more, colonized but seem like they have stopped doing anything. Ive drawn a line on the mycelium a week later still ceases to move pass that line. I was just wondering if i am able to tap the cakes out of the draw and cut off any extra substrate, then dunk the half of the cake and try growing shrooms off of it that way. Will this work?

just make sure you cut away all of the uncolonized parts!
try turning the jars upside down and tapping them on a hard surface to get them to fall down on the lid - this allows for more air exchange and my be just what they need to start growing again
but yes you can cut away the uncolonised parts although I'm sure some one will come on here and tell you it wont work and it will cause contams but I have done it myself and it works.

Ive done both. The jars have been flipped many times and ive already removed the tape and put the tyvek material on it. But still not much is working. I just made bulk substrate and when i poured the BRF in i poured it all in at once instead of sprinkled it in slowly. I just dont think the the BRF was able to get spread completely through the jars causing stop points.

Once you cut the cakes case them, no use cutting a 1/2 pint jar and trying to get something out of it...which wont be much. More then likly the growth has stopped because the substrate is to dry or way to wet.

it may be packed in too tight ,is the temp around 85?if not these will slow the growth too-I would wait a few more days and see if it grows again if not -take it out, remove all uncolonised substrate and make a casing out of whats left.

I tried, when packing the jars to keep it very loose and airy. The temperature is around room temperature, maybe a little higher, around 75.
Thats a good idea too, never cased before, can learn by casing my crappy jars.

You can do that. Just look back at my growth log and you'll see I had this exact same problem and it worked out for me.

Sorry but ive got a poormans set up and whatever my house is at is what my shroomies temp is going to be. I know thats not giving them much caring love but its all I can do as of now.
When cutting the extra substrate off should i actually cut a thin layer of the mycelium off too to make sure that i get all the substrate.
