The issue is the fiber content. If you eat alot of fiber you will have intestinal discomfort. Mushrooms are mostly fiber. If you remove the fiber or dilute it with other food you will be better off. Some people are more or less sensitive.

So have I but discounting the possibility of something unknown at play seems intellectually immature.  About as much so as immediately assuming there's harm.

I'm not saying I exclusively literally cook my cubes as if they were for dinner.  But I very rarely bother eating them anymore without some form of extraction.  There's too many easily quantifiable benefits to making tea or something similar.

Drinking cube powder that's been soaked in a liquid is the hardest weirdest thing to swallow all of, without it sticking to your throat and making you gag and shit.  I mean maybe I just did it wrong but, man, would never do this again.

How important is chewing/powdering anyway?

I had a baggie of cracker dry cubes that got bendy..
..so I've been microdosing them by just balling .6g in my fingers and swallowing 'em like a big vitamin.

Seems to be working.

"A large quantity of Agaritine was detected in fresh mushrooms (Agaricus bisporus), but decreased after boiling the mushrooms in water at 100 degrees C for 10 min."

"The observed rates of mouse urinary bladder carcinoma were 30.8% for fresh mushrooms (Agaricus bisporus), 23.5% for fresh Shiitake (Agaricus edodes), 9.8% for dry Shiitake, 50% for synthesized Agaritine and 5.4% for paraffin wax as a control."

They're saying that agaritine (a carcinogenic, hydrazine like compound) is found in fresh mushrooms and it is destroyed with heat.

Just because something can cause cancer in super high doses in lab rats, doesn't necessarily mean it will cause cancer in people.
You would probably need to eat nothing but a crazy amount of raw portobella for a long time to induce cancer. ("Agaricus bisporus raw: 350 g/day for 50 years") A few sliced button mushrooms on a salad won't kill you.

But saying you don't believe it "because Paul Stametes is the Dr. Phil of mushrooms" is pretty asinine.

More because he gave 0 evidence. And fearmongered it. A staple of having no evidence to back yourself up with.

And I already did research on the Paul Portobello conspiracy that only lead me to believe the guy to be even more of a fool.

It's the same time I found out the cancer lie

Ive dried fruits on my woodstove in the winter and they taste like peanuts almost?

The ones i do in my dehydrater do taste a little more gamey.

I actually only eat fresh fruits, otherwise i make a tea

Sure he exaggerated, fear-mongered, and sensationalized the information. To sell books, mushroom extracts, and tickets to his talks...

But it seems like there is SOME evidence. There are small amounts of carcinogenic chemicals found in agaricus mushrooms.
If you were [able] to eat 1 lb of raw agaricus everyday for your whole life, you could double your chances of developing cancer in the next 50 yrs.

Ok, so what are the carcinogenic potentials of chemicals found in every day staple items like potatoes and rice. I would wager the mushrooms are as safe or safer. Which then beggs the question if in relativistic danger of all normal foods is it actually dangerous?

The act of cooking also may be making loads of new more potent carcinogens.

These are criticisms and concerns any decent scientist would ask of their own research.

Potatoes, Those things make all sorts of nasty chemicals, solanine,  chaconine, indigestible starches. You don't want to eat them raw, they are toxic when they turn green from exposure to sunlight.

Rice accumulates more arsenic from the soil than almost any other crop.

I'd guess most of the packaged foods sold in american grocery stores are more likely to cause cancer than eating a few buttons.

It might not be as dangerous as Paul wants to make it sound, but the fact remains that they have found carcinogens in Agaricus.

Lol scary carcinogens.. Do you smoke weed? Do you breathe in the air outside? Do you cook on a BBQ? Every day we're bringing in more carcinogens into our body. Reducing the load might help you live longer, but you don't need to live your life in fear from shit you literally cannot control (carcinogens everywhere). Besides, the fact its a class 3 carcinogen, along with Fuckin tea, should be enough to realize there isn't enough evidence to suggest it harms humans. Another thing to note is that just because it's classified as toxic, doesn't mean it is bad for us. Toxic things consumed in low doses may actually be beneficial under something known as hormesis

Exactly. Its a big nothingburger. If you're going to worry about agaricus having carcinogens you need to provide a compelling argument that they're actually harmful, especially compared to normal and relative food use among people who also eat buttons. Need to provide a compelling argument that in fact though cooking makes some of the carcinogens safe(r) does the cooking itself create more anyway and are they worse.

Pauls carcinogens in buttons is the scientific equivalent to me saying I found dust 99.99% of water cups sampled from every restaurant and on that dust I found ecoli. Then publishing it in some backwoods journal and having it reported on in a way that makes it sound like you really should avoid cups.
