I honestly don't understand how anyone can like the taste of beer. Soda is a much better option for just as much enjoyment. If you want to get drunk, drink some actual liquor.

I had an NA called Kaliber with lunch either today or yesterday (just took a nap that's throwing me off). It wasn't very great.

St. Paul's NA is the only NA beer I've found that's legitimately good, but OD will scratch the taste itch too.

Theres these middle eastern malted beverages that are Halal that are pretty decent too; they've got a distinctive 0,0% on them. I recommend them a lot too.

Beer I do think is an acquired taste, Zaid. I think it's as simple as drinking swill for utility at parties and suddenly imperial stouts stand out to your tongue as a delicious, high quality alt to what you've been drinking.

Not really.

I was too busy to notice to be honest... I quit without even trying and I just "forgot" about it... then it dawned on me that I had stopped and then I challenged mysef and extra week.

i was about 7 months sober and definitely noticed a drastic improvement in my life. one of the side effects of alcohol for me is craving more alcohol but that's because i am alcoholic. having one drink basically automatically puts me in the mental state of being a degenerate noncontributing member of society with no ambition for personal growth, common sense or decency and then i get stuck that way

Awesome, and same deal with me. I would quit for sometimes 3 months, sometimes 6, but never any longer. And every time I would go back it would get a little out of hand. The whole alcoholic deal really puts a damper on enjoying it, not to state the obvious.
But I haven't been drunk in almost 3 years now. And what I've noticed personally, as well as some friends with similar issues, is that it takes a full 2 years of being clean from alcohol for those cravings to go away, and for our brains to somewhat rewire themselves.

Nowadays for me it's come to a point where it disgusts me to see someone really drunk. I can't be around it. Not because it makes me crave it, but just reminds me of how I acted for so long.

that's good to hear! it's a good way to look at it. it really does take a toll on one's confidence, to realize how much of an idiot/asshole you've been. and then to realize you've programmed yourself to gravitate towards a substance that makes you feel like you allow yourself to act that way..

for me there's not really any sort of craving, but the temptation is always there. a quick and easy fix to any sort of anxiety or shit that life may throw your way. but it's a trap. the level of confidence i have during my periods of sobriety is amazing, as is my personal drive and ambition to succeed in life. one little slip up isn't the end of the world, but the state of mind alcohol puts me in is detrimental to my mental/physical and spiritual health and well being, and growth as a person.

Well, fuck that.
If Cannabis is beneficial to you medically, or even just recreationally in moderation, what in the hell is the point of stopping?

16 years, and I've never once felt it hindered me. I may not be an example for everyone. But weed keeps me away from drinking, treats my anxiety and pain issues, and it's cheap AF in my situation growing and purchasing certain things with a med card.

Alcohol has no good to offer at all. It's an immediate negative over positive situation every time. Quite fucking literally, poison.

While weed, well the pros/cons list is a lot more filled up with pros for me.

Trust me, I still get those temptations.
Especially after I've done something really rewarding such as going on super strenuous new hike, or backcountry skiing a new mountain face, etc. I find myself wanting to reward something awesome I did with a beer... Or 50 over 3 days.

That was the case for a long time. As you mentioned spiritual growth being hindered was a big one for me as well. Being numb all the time leads to a horribly stagnant lifestyle.

And also as you mentioned, a little slip up is certainly not the end of the world. I may not have gotten drunk in the 3 years since I've moved across the country, but there's been about 10 times where I've enjoyed a couple to a few glasses of wine/mead or beer.
Only because I was in a situation where moderation needed to happen in order for me to not fuck up an evening for those around me, or of course I would've kept going until I couldn't anymore.

Exercise and adrenaline inducing hobbies such as skiing and climbing for me nowadays keep me at peace with the temptations to a certain degree. Yoga and meditation daily over the last 6 months has been unbelievable. It's a lot of damn work, but it's worth it to me in every way.

You've been around here long enough that you may remember my posts, or The Drinking Thread in the pub from around 2013-2015. I can't and won't ever blame alcohol for my behaviors, but those 2 years for reasons I still don't understand while abusing my xanax rx and drinking about a 5th of liquor every night, I lied constantly and compulsively about the pettiest of things. Behavior that I wouldn't find acceptable in anyone remotely close to me.
But that shit came out. I enjoy writing, and writing stories. But it came to a point where I was writing exaggerated stories about my life and portraying them as truth.

I hurt a lot of people that eventually wanted to meet me, get to know me, or were already in my life. Here, IRL, and especially in the video chat room I was running for the members here at that time.

I can't ever behave like that again. It's not fair to me, none of you guys here, and especially not to those who love me.

I'm super open brother, but thanks for your courtesy. And yes I did get charged with that but whilst under the legal limit.

I drank 1/3 to half of the beer and gave it back to my friend cause it was making me dizzy but turns out it was 6.7%.

I'm DDing for his Bday tomorrow but with another person's car.

I was a daily drinker for 40 years and my last 15 years progressed to sick amounts and behavior.
My quitting alcohol was truly life saving for me.

My first year sober was rough, daily cravings, even with vivitrol shots every month.
From 12 to maybe 16 months dry I was pink cloud feeling, "I got this :thumbup:"

Then PAWS started, hit me rather hard. Doc prescribed Gabapentin 300 mg 3X a day
stopped most of my discomfort, especially my RLS

My cravings gradually disappeared after 3 years or so and I rarely think about boozing.
Then today, after a $300. grocery trip, I get home, we put everything away.

Wifey pours a glass of wine, I catch a wiff, and I get this great idea that if I slammed
just one 12 oz. glass I'd be feeling pretty nice and relaxed and no one would have to know.
That thought lasted about one second.

I've never had one of anything and I'm really looking forward to celebrating 5 years without alcohol in 2 months.
I'm just not willing to throw away the 1600+ some odd days of sobriety
I've put together, one day at a time.

I have not taken a drink of anything for well over a month. I feel great. Lost some weight. Sleeping great. Having vivid dreams.

I still get the "pull", largely due to habit, but it's easy to ignore with all of life's other pleasures.

I highly recommend it. I can't say I won't drink forever because that's something that will remain to be seen, but I would like everyone to feel this good - and if there's even better ways to feel please tell!!

16 years, and I've never once felt it hindered me. I may not be an example for everyone. But weed keeps me away from drinking, treats my anxiety and pain issues, and it's cheap AF in my situation growing and purchasing certain things with a med card.

Alcohol has no good to offer at all. It's an immediate negative over positive situation every time. Quite fucking literally, poison.

While weed, well the pros/cons list is a lot more filled up with pros for me.

On a personal level, I agree with the opinion of next to no alcohol for me. Never sits right. And unless you wanna start doing daily maintenance of it the hangover is fucked. I'd pick a much better drug, a natural one, if I was to develop a daily habit.

What? I would say at least half of our active members are at the very east social drinkers.
As some of us have grown older, including myself have quit alcohol intake altogether. But it's really not that many of us.

At least I don't think.

With that said, out of the dozen or so shroomery members I've met IRL, only one of them drank regularly. Huh...

Ain't nothing wrong with that.

Even recovering severe alcoholics I've met over the last couple years.
They beat themselves up so much over having a single beer or drink as if they are starting the rehabilitation all over again.

I think that's bullshit. If you're an alcoholic and manage to only have one or maybe two drinks, you're still killing it.

My best friend was a really severe alcoholic and cocaine addict for over 15 years. He would go on binges for 1-2 weeks and either end up in jail or the hospital every time. Then get clean for 6-12 months. Either by himself or because of probation.
At that point, he'd be able to have a single beer and be good.

Unfortunately for most in this position, once you realize that you can have a single drink and be good, the confidence grows, and drinking becomes a problem again quickly.
Just as with any addictive drug.

I never drink alcohol it's just not fun anymore when you always got to worry about who's driving

even when I do drink I can't enjoy it
i just end up pissing every 5 seconds
