Identification help
    #25511093 -

Hi everyone. Just started hunting this year. I know upstate NY isn’t the greatest area, but I’m looking for choice edibles also as I’m a bit of a survivalist/Prepper and mushroom identification has been on my list of useful skills for a long time now.

Part of my gardening practice is using copious amounts of wood chips and as such I have developed a relationship with a local arborist who drops me off a lot of wood chips whenever I ask.

I have been keeping my eyes open on hikes and stuff in the past month and have been luck enough to find a giant puffball, a dryads saddle and a Bears tooth head. But just last night my yard started popping with mushrooms. I took pictures of at least 15 different kinds including a small patch of indigo milk caps which are another edible and really cool.

As for the specimen below, I’m just not sure. That sure as heck is a purple spore print, but cyanescens? I wasn’t expecting a Psilocybe here in NY, was really thinking only pans here.

I’d appreciate any help as even though I’m doing a lot of reading and studying I’m super new at this.
I tried identifying using stamets psilocybin mushrooms of the world but I’m not confident in any identification.

Habitat:
Upstate NY fall

I covered a hugulkultur bed which is logs and sticks of varying size, buried and mounded over with dirt, with a foot of wood hips from an arborist on top.

Gills:

Tan/green color Not attached to stem , gills

Stem:

1 inch or less length, small drinking straw diameter 2-3mm Gold color with minor browning. Hollow, does not easily pull from cap. Splits easy when squeezed but strong when pulled.

Cap:

1/2 inch diam  gold color, slippery when wet, soft leather feel when dry. Wavy cap

Spore print color:

Purple

Bruising:

Brown

Hypholoma.
Upstate NY has all sorts of awesome edibles and other interesting fungi. If you're after actives, this time of year your best bet will be Gymnopilus.

Aren’t gyms a little risky? Are the deadly lookalikes not up here in NY?
