Possible Acclimated Oregon Cubensis Bed :( ....or not
    #2549554 - 04/11/04 11:40 PM (20 years, 9 days ago)

Two years ago an area in my garden was used to dump wasted casings and other debris. No live debris have been placed in the area since fall of '02.

The soil is made up of mostly composted ruminant dung. This is what I see now:

I dumped some coir in the bed a couple of weeks ago. After lifting the chunks of coir, this is what I saw.

I pulled some grass out of the bed, the roots were covered with mycelial growth.

I can't wait to see what happens if anything, it may not be anything of significance. I may try to culture the growth soon. I'll keep things updated.

Joshua

The humidity here in the Summer is low. Cubes, as we know, need a high humidity environment.

The temps are just fine though!

Nice...I was thinking about a mister from a drip irrigation system for a shiitake log.
If there just happened to be something else below it........

I've discovered that simplest way to encourage natural outdoor growth in an area cubensis doesn't normally growis to place the site under low lying foliage on the north side. the synergy of the ground moisture and low foliage creates a high humidity environment. i have experiemnted with providing artifical shades with success. some of the simplest material is the translucent "tufftex" type of plastic roofing for decks. One 8' piece can make a lot of smaller shade covers.

I would expect the site pictured would fruit but not last beyond that unless it was fortified with new dung, preferably before flushing. It is quite feasible to sustain a yearly producing cubensis bed in this manner.

Very easily. Search the Growlog forum for, "Shroom Gardening."

Or, read Moe's Outdoor Tek in the FAQ.

Honestly, if you're in central florida, next time you're picking, if you see a good poop with some fruits growing off it, just pick the poop up an take it home. Dig a little hole (6 inches deep) in a shaddy spot, and put the poop in there. Pick any time it rains.

Or you could just read Moe's outdoor tek.

Nope, 'cause if they fruit it wouldn't be acclimated, it would be semi-cultivated.

The damn neighbor's cat has been digging the bed up and shitting in it!!!

I feel like dealing some death, but will refrain. I've sprinkled a bunch of pepper in my yard. I heard that cats don't like pepper.

Anyone have any ideas of how to keep a cat out of my yard, other than killing or crippling it?

Urinating near the bed seems to help....marks it as your territory...that of a much larger and (male?) creature.
