HELP, confused as when to birth, single inoculation point. pf tek.
    #25508516 - 10/03/18 08:41 AM (6 years, 3 months ago)

Hey all!

I posted this question in the guide I followed https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/24179086/fpart/all/vc/1 but making a new post in hope i can receive a speedy answer ... I'm a noob and managed to get 8 jars to almost ready to birth using the above link.

My dilemma is that i think they will be ready to birth it 1-2 days, however I have to fly out for a wedding and will be away from them for 6 days. Will they be ok to wait until I return before birthing/dunking/rolling?

PS. I used a single inoculation point in the middle of the jars, they took a while to colonise to this point, about 3ish weeks. Confused as the guide says if you use a single point they are almost ready to go when you see growth.

Advice please, I don't want my babies to suffer.

Cakes need to consolidate for at least a week after full colonization,  and will happily fruit invitro... they'll be fine, you can birth when you return!
If they've got pins, skip the dunk first flush and let them finish, can sit the cake in a dish with 1/4" of water over night for a drink if things start drying out... or dunk, remove pins, and carry on as usual

:whathesaid:

Have no fears.
Your babies will be fine.

They're more than 6 days away from birthing.

I third this, you're all good, dude, you still got at least 1-1.5 weeks before you'll need to birth. If in the future this happens and they seem to be fully colonized or X amount of time into waiting for consolidation and you have to go away for a while, perhaps keeping them in the fridge would help keep the process under control/slow it down for you when you get back.

Brothers!

Just wanted to share an update with you as collectively i feel it wouldnt of been possible with your advice and these resources.

Cakes are look healthy XD but some are going slower than the others, hoping the others will mature soon.

Could I ask for some advice on watering? I tried the bottom watering lids but the water just seeps through into the perlite. I've been giving the cakes a good misting daily, is this enough?

Looking good.

Other than dunking between flushes, I didn't water my cakes.

Just misted and made sure my perlite stayed damp.

You're not looking for "how big". You'll be looking for the cap and veil to start ripping away from the stem and opening up.

From the time the veil tears to the time the cap flattens out and drops spores, you're not going to gain any more weight or potency. You're just going to get your perlite dirty...

Unless your house is dry as a dessert that should be enough.

Before you start...Do you have a Pressure Cooker and a Dehydrator? I highly recommend getting both!

This is amazing! I've harvested the first cake as all the veils had popped, they are drying next to me on some paper towel with the assistance of a usb fan

I have no idea how to 'take a print' though, is there any guide on here that you recommend?

Just cut the stipe off as close to the cap as possible,  and lay on fresh folded tinfoil for 8-24 hrs... I like to do 3 8 hour prints, after a 1 hour initial print (allowing contaminants to fall)... use fresh caps that have opened nearly flat, and allow to dry for 8-12 hours before folding the foil up... invest in a dehydrator: got mine at goodwill for 15 dollars... be a shame to lose all your efforts over improper drying

OK thanks! Seems easy enough, forgive my ignorance ... but what would i use these spores for?

Also i've been looking at some drying teks and many people use silica gel in tub, is this ok to do? Dehydrators are very pretty expensive where im from.

Use prints for trades, and so you never need to pay for them in the future... I'd suggest making a giveaway post to get a few trade ratings, and then you could use the official trade thread
