Quart jar lid setup with SFD's?

I am wondering about best practice for lids on this situation with synthetic filter disks?

I'm looking at inoculating quart grain jars from agar culture, so no need for injection ports.

I have read about just using the SFD with the ring, and no actual metal lid.

Alternatively, use the metal lid upside down but with one or more holes drilled / punched in it with the SFD on top.

In this latter case, what size and number per of holes would be optimal?

I am happy to use one full disk per jar rather than cutting them up.

I punch 2-4 holes in the lid and use a whole SFD on top and works fine. I don’t notice a difference between 2 and 4 holes.

Yeah don't use just the sfd it will dry up too fast.

I use rtv red high heat silicone and cut mine into quarters. Then 1/4 inch drill bit. That's my gas exchange port on ALL my jars. Then some silicone injection ports but youve got that covered with your fancy agar... doing it right. Ppppffffffttt
