I fell after inoculation :/

So first time grower here, dont need much decided to get familiar and make BRF cakes for my first time. So after I inoculated i was removing jars and actually tripped over my cat and fell knocking 6 1/2 pint jars from my hands to the ground.... I was literally just done injecting the jars and ready to store them in high dark place. I know only time will tell but do you think they are probably goners. If they are i wont be too sad i have 12 more already finished but i was just curious

I am confused. Why would you think they are goners? If the jars cracked yes they are no good. If not they should be fine. Butt i am still confused as to why you would think they are no good after dropping them?

As long as they didnt shatter on the ground, or cracked the glass, it should still work. Correct me if i am wrong

The issue is that they're BRF jars and have a layer of vermiculite on top to protect from falling contaminants. By disturbing this layer, you're making it likely mold spores and whatever slip through into the BRF substrate. It's not like a grain jar where you're fine as long as the jar stays shut and SFD glued on.

OP,

Just place the jars somewhere optimal for light and temperature and don't disturb them. If they're fucked, they're fucked. What's done is done. Get started on the other 12 and lock the cat away!

If done right there should be no place for the verm to go maybe a little down the sides. But he said he tripped not that he shook them for a minute or two.

I hate the PF tek because the lids fail too easily at keeping out contamination. Even if you are successful, you should absolutely still make these lids:

I hate pf tek anyway it is no easier actually harder I think the only benefit is you don't have to have a pressure cooker I say buy a pc and get 10x the yield with less work.

Spores are tiny. It wouldn't take much for them to fall through. There's a reason we don't move the jars around after inoculating. If he used coarse verm, the risk goes up. Like I said, just proceed as normal and observe if they go green.

I disagree that it's harder than bulk growing and definitely disagree that there's anything wrong with the lids. A fine verm barrier and MP tape on the lids is pretty hard to mess up. A lid with a SHIP is definitely more contam proof than the traditional 4 hole lids for PF Tek, especially for a noob.

when dust is dry it is easy to blow off a table when it is wet  you could turn that same table upside down and you will not shake it off and I am sure he used a spore syringe

I will say this to end the conversation of if the jars are ok or not. If you did everything right up to the point where that damn cat purposely tripped you and hid in the corner laughing. The jars will be fine. The only worry is everything b4 that point.

If the verm is done properly, it'll be compressed by the lid and will not shift significantly... this post made me giggle

12/12 lighting has been shown beneficial to mycelium through all stages of growth from spore to spent... check the dates on the threads you're looking at as practices evolve rather quickly and errors are often repeated from habit

Yeha i have seen people say light doesn't matter.. but my last grow i put a cfl above and between 4 boxes and everyone one of the boxes the shrooms leaned toward the light.. although it was probably the heat of the light more than the light itself thinking bout it

Hey guys so after i have saw all the comments a few things. One is i appreciate everyone responding lol, but so i AM supposed to keep my inoculated jars in light 12/12 then? i Was under the presumption that it was okay to store in total darkness. Also i DO have a PC that i used to steralize my pf tek jars with, but if theyre are easier methods im all ears. I think id like to try bulk substrate next but i have yet to be successful on this grow so i may wait..

12/12 light cycle from inoculation to the final shroom is picked.

You can bulk your pf cakes when they get to 100%. Just grate them with a cheese grater mix 1:1 or 2:1 sub:spawn then fruit in an unmod tub with lid flipped.

Agreed. I've never gotten a decent yield from cakes. I think the small sub dries out/responds too quickly to changes.
