Canada is a pretty expansive place, and having lived in a number of provinces it has become increasingly clear to me how important it is that provincial (and perhaps moreso aboriginal) culture and society should be allowed to flourish in a microcosmic way
it is better if Canada as a macrocosm and the provinces as microcosms are reflective of each other rather than trying push everything together into a bland monotony

Trudeau as an international face gets automatic bonus points in two regards
political legacy and comfortable, fluent bilingualism
he was able to reenter the global sphere that Harper had been pulling out of quite easily because growing up under his father as a previous Prime Minister seems to have helped grow his worldliness
Do recognize and partially agree with criticisms like him having made Canadians look silly on his India trip, but am okay if the world thinks us silly, it helps foster the narrative that we are friendly and good natured
while Trudeau's family was in India, they spent the whole time in traditional clothing, including a kind of poor decision to wear ceremonial wedding outfits as streetwear
tho it was really interesting to see someone so heavily enmeshed in feminism be at the receiving end of 'cultural appropriation' claims, bear through it with a smile, and be able to still point to trade negotiations and business investments into Canada that were accomplished while under the colourful shrouds



like people thinking me as friendly and good natured despite my being a selfish cunt, it means if travelling Europe ever appeals to me my Canada flag on my backpack will earn me free smiles rather scowls

Singh at the international level has me vaguely worried, because he is quite outspoken against India's Sikh genocide
and that is a real sore spot with the Indian government, so worry that our international relations would suffer for aspects beyond his control
respect and agree with his position of speaking out against the genocide, so do not dislike him for that
but am able to recognize that there are foreign powers who very much would dislike him, and consequently Canada, for that

Bernier has the bilingual fluency, but not the political prestige that Trudeau has

Andrew Scheer (replacement for Harper at head of the Conservative party) did do a whirlwind India trip to try and improve Canada's image after Trudeau's visit which earned a nod of approval from me
but have not been incredibly impressed with him running the lead opposition so far, and Bernier breaking away from his party to form a new Conservative party has potentially carried away Scheer's ability to win me back without managing something really impressive
