Slight bit of advice from an unknown psychonaut in training. Avoid the Terrance McKenna hype train if you really want to grow from this substance. There are much more resourceful and worthwhile icons to be heard and given thought. Terrance is interesting and surely knows psychadelics but most of his rants are just that IMHO. Rants of senseless chatter. His brother Dennis is ever more influential in a positive way if you ask me. But hey everything in the realm of mushrooms is subjective to most people who don't follow some sort of predetermined spiritual path such as myself. The mushrooms were placed here on EARTH and his "machine elves" and talking gnomes are surely NOT what this stuff is all about. I would even venture to say that Terrance was in part some propaganda to deter the mainstream away from. The actual beauty and love that God as given us. Just my two cents. What do I know

you usually don't write in such a matter of fact way about things that aren't so cut and dry.

btw, it's really nice to have a small group of peeps with whom one has been dosing for about 30 years...anyone can go into the deep end without worrying about what anyone else is experiencing and some really amazing group hallucinations have occurred from time to time.

It's just my opinion. I agree amazing things can happen in groups, imo more so on the come down when you discuss what you learn, are learning, and thinking, and sharing this, but imo high doses of mushrooms other than alone is a distraction from the depths inward you would otherwise experience, but to each their own of course

Guess it depends what you're doing, why,and what you wish to experience / accomplish.

Journies with friends sounds fun too.

Definitely a good bonding experience

i only tripped with friends when i was a young party guy, and it was only LSD

i'm much older now and only trip alone (LSD, mush, cactus).  i have only 1 friend who is into psyches now, but we haven't tripped together.  he's a single dad with middle and high school children so he doesn't have any opportunities to trip these days.  even if he could carve out the time, i don't think i'd like to trip with others.

i'm in it solely for the experience.  i never have healing or learning objectives for tripping.  i try to go into it being open to whatever happens.  i guess my only objective is to experience the strange beauty of it all.

it's been a year since my last cactus trip, but mrs LuzaW is out on a business trip next week, so i'll have plenty of time to cook up a brew.  i expect to be unable to type this time next week, not that i plan to fool around with computers of phones on the trip anyway

This is true, however if your typical contributing member of society were to listen to mckenna speak it only adds to the stigma of lunacy and incoherence that surround psychadelics. That is just in my opinion but I really believe most people would be absolutely turned away from the beauty of entheogens and their community based of his lectures alone. Seems counterproductive to what the case should be. I believe that these plant medicines should be used to reconnect us with the earth we live on, the nature that it holds as well as its beauty and wonder. Truly repenting for our sins and connecting with the one true lord, creator and savior.  I believe mckenna was punished for all of his nonsense in that he no longer could tolerate the substances. He was using them for the wrong reasons and contacting dark entities instead of light. I'm not even saying that he didn't talk to elves, but those weren't elves he was encountering, rather his own demons. Nonetheless, this is all just speculated opinion and subjective. Never here to argue only to learn and share experiences.

Word, I haven't really heard much of him myself

I prefer to read the wisdom of the ancients and make.my own discoveries,but he has said some cool stuff.

I actually came to the same conclusion as him, the stoned ape theory, I thought I had made an amazing discovery, only to realize it had already been proposed later on :lol:

I think he was punished for pushing it too far, the same way I felt punished the one and only time by mushrooms when I dosed way too high with only the intention of "I want go deeper than I've ever gone" well I did. Went way deeper than I knew was possible. In my defense I didn't think it was much higher than my previously highest dose and thought I would venture to relatively familiar territory, but I was wrong.

You could be right, I can't really say.

One thing he said I thought was beautiful, it was that life long ago sensed the disruptions of the sun and decided it needed to evolve a creature which could save life from the impending soon, humans and human conciousness was the answer. It was a little more poetic when he said it.

People always talk about Joe Rogan too and I'm like :shrug: I make my own discoveries homie, listening to others can sometimes be beneficial, sometimes I feel no need.

But I always enjoy reading the wisdom of the ancients...

I prefer to go back as far as possible to the oldest origins of wisdom.

Yeah I definitely think he was an interesting character and had a few well-thought-out points of advice. Ive surely turned to his talks when seeking knowledge or advice or insight about a substance. Although, I do feel like he tried to comprehend more then we as humans are really meant to. like you said pushing the envelope too far. I believe we are in fact spirits living a human experience temporarily. If attempting to contact aliens or some higher entities through one of nature's greatest gifts Is your priority so be it that's fine.  Especially considering I do believe you are entering a spiritual mindset I'm sure There will be "something" waiting for you if you seek it. that definitely doesn't mean it's going to be a good "something". I would think they are demons and fallen angels of satan hidden in a facade of light. I've actually felt some form of frustration from different beings or voices trying to catch my attention on higher dose experiences. whatever they are do not appreciate that I have no desire to listen or see them at all. Usually what I get is the feeling of some kind of awesome spectacle or great secret they will show me if I follow their thoughts. I have my lord and my intentions for going into that place is usually because I'm unhappy with my life choices or something of the like. I have always ignored whatever those feelings are and have been greatly rewarded with nothing but pure bliss and states of near perfection. Again, all of this is just my life and interpretations. I feel like Terrance could have only added insult to injury in having what I would call a discontent mindset on such a beautiful gift that we call life. It's one thing to believe that we deserve more than what we are given(and maybe he didn't and I read him wrong) but if you have an audience and you are trying to bring them with you in your misguided ventures then the repercussions will be greater I would think. Maybe I've got him all wrong as the community seems to love him. Then again I see things much different than most. Regardless I am full of love for everyone and these experiences are surely a huge blessing and gift. One love is a big reality for me.

The only time I've had a bad trip was my first one, I was around people.

For the first hour or so it was fantastic, but then one of my friends who was not tripping and has never tripped was observing me as sort of a guinea pig, when he told me he was texting his girlfriend about my trip and how I was acting etc I became very self aware and started thinking critically of myself during the trip, then it started to spiral.

Good lesson to be learned, if you're around people and you're inexperienced it can be hit or miss. I've never had a bad trip solo on mushrooms, difficult at times sure, but overall the trip is highly positive and when I'm coming down I'm looking forward to doing it again.

That being said, I want to state it was not my friend's fault for my bad trip, it was my own. I did resent him for that for a little while, but that trip acted as a massive catalyst to figuring shit out about myself and I've since come on leaps and bounds so even if you do have a bad trip there's so much good that can come from it.

Last time I tripped I took 3g's and walked down the shop to buy a lottery ticket absolutely tripping balls. Passed many people along the way, made some idle chit chat with the shopkeeper etc, went back home and was visited by my sister. Not one of them new I was tripping even though my pupils were the size of dinner plates. Not because I was trying to hide it from them, but because I didn't give a shit whether they knew or not.

It's all about your mind set, if you don't trust the company you're with it's probably best not to do it around them. If you don't trust yourself, probably best to have someone you do trust near by. Though if it's just a 1g trip to start with you should be completely fine by yourself, 1g trips are often my favourites.

Personally if you've got plenty of experience tripping, dosing solo can be really fun and great for self reflection.  I always make sure to just let one or two best friends know what I'm doing so if things do go awry I can hop on a phone call with buddies who also have experiences in tripping.  Otherwise it can be a lot more calm of an experience, you don't have to worry about what others are doing/feeling and can really just do some good ol'thinking and self analysis.

Just got back from a small holiday to find some real gems amongst the replies to my post. Thank you!

I'M definitely going to go solo.

Enkidu - I like the bit about surrendering. I took a 10g dry dose and was extremely anxious about what to expect. I meditated, remembered what some experienced guys said about surrending to the mushrooms and just like that, I had an extremely profound experience. They were very good to me.

What amazed me during the group doses, was that you could sense when people were moving into your space, they wouldn't even be noisy.....I'd be in a very deep internal place, then next thing I come out of that internal place with laser like focus in their direction. The other thing I really enjoyed about group doses was laughing at each other for no apparent reason - it just seemed to last for hours.
