Let's add a little context shall we?
Over the weekend, three reported injuries occurred at the hands of antifa. I will discuss Ngo last, so first are John Blum and Adam Kelly.
John Blum came to the protest armed and looking to get into a fight. Here you can see him holding and waving around a weapon, as well as aggressively going towards a masked man who isn’t posing anywhere near as aggressively as Blum. Also in his facebook post history features posts like this, that are joking about communists not being humans.
In this video you can see him swinging his baton and charging into antifa activists. He provoked violence and he got beat because of it. He is not an innocent victim, he is an idiot who thought he was tougher than he actually is.
That video also shows the incident with Adam Kelly, the red bearded man who had a few lashes on his head because of this incident. He went in to help an aggressor, and he ended up getting hurt because of that poor decision.
The right is trying to portray antifa as attacking an old man, but that is not the reality. The right shows up armed at protests, often more armed than antifa, and both sides expect a confrontation. Blum tried to cause violence, and that he did. He is not an innocent old man beat up by antifa, he is a violent individual who made a very bad mistake.
As for Andy Ngo.
He is a shitty journalist. Normally, a journalist is a journalist is a journalist, but Ngo has failed to give this professional courtesy to other journalists who suffered way more than him, so he forfeits any blanket claim to the defense of freedom of the press and opens himself up for criticisms. So here goes.
He was fired from PSU Vanguard for purposefully misquoting a Muslim student to make the student look like a jihadist, which put them in danger of retaliation . He tried to play it off as being silenced for telling the truth, much like the right always does when people get tired of their misinformation, but that is not the case. They are just snowflakes that spread misinformation and then complain about being censored.
Ngo also wrote a piece on No-Go zones that was an example of the worse kind of journalism – parachute journalism. He went to a place that he had no familiarity with, wrote an article about how bad the Muslims there are, and left. Him spreading fake news about the dangerousness of Muslims contributes to Islamophobia and makes public discussions more toxic.
On May Day 2019, the usual fascists of Portland (Proud Boys, Patriot Prayer) went to Cider Riot, a local pub, to provoke a fight. There they attacked the patrons, sending one to the hospital. Andy Ngo then doxed her, while she was still in the hospital. He showed no sympathy to this person who was attack and had a fractured vertebrae, so why should he be given sympathy?
He has also tried to dox members of the DSA by trying to take pictures of their sign in sheet. The First Amendment allows for freedom of the press, but also freedom of association. Andy attacked that freedom. Why does he get to hide behind another freedom given to him in the same sentence?
Ngo’s work as an editor in Quillette includes the infamous ‘antifa journalists’ list, which was a poorly done study on journalists covering antifa, claiming that they were all actually members of antifa. This resulted in harassment campaigns against these journalists, including them being placed on an Attomwaffen Division death list, which for those of you not in the know is an undisputed Neo-Nazi organization that has killed people. His work puts people in harms way.
In short, Andy has no journalist ethics. He misquoted a student to make his story better, putting the student in danger for being perceived as a jihadist. He downplays another journalist getting murdered just because he doesn’t believe in his views. He flat out lied about Muslims in England to promote his narrative. He has doxed people, including those injured by people he was following around.
So yes, Andy was beat up. He might not have been a great target as an unarmed ‘journalist’, but he has made a career out of targeting antifa, and it caught up to him. Not only that, but he put himself in harms way by picking fights with antifa over a long span of time, and then showing up in their faces after he has even doxed them. The last video before he put up before being attacked was him shoving a camera in people’s faces. Then, he cries about being targeted. Antifa has made some poor targeting decisions in the past, but that’s what happens when you have a very open movement and just about anyone can join. The vast majority of their targets have been fascists.
This is why I personally don’t support attacking Ngo as an individual, but why I will never denounce those that were tired of him being a horrible individual that put people in danger and on hit lists for the sake of likes and twitter followers and took action against him.

Andy Ngo is not a journalist and surely not an innocent victim. He is an established far-right propogandist with a track record of promoting violence against people. He is a staple within Patriot Prayer’s gaggle of media grifters. This was self-defense.
A good bit on Andy claiming hate crimes have been faked. This is common practice by Andy. In fact, he has such a fascination with faking crimes, and the Patriot Prayer leader Joey Gibson has stated that they will infiltrate antifa's Black Bloc, which leaves some questioning, was this one of the fake crimes that Ngo is obsessed with?? Here is a great thread on Andy's islamophobia and complicity with fascists.
And here is a great thread with info on the far right terrorizing Portland in the lead up to this weekend's protests.
As for the cement accusations.
This is the best round up on that. It started with a rumor spread by Jack Posobiec who wasn’t there but found a picture from the event, made a false claim, and spread it to his half million followers, who then uncritically believed it. The police reports of it happening show no evidence, just reports, which can be as simple as an idiot calling 911 and saying there was cement.
There has been no picture evidence of spilled milkshakes with cement in it. If anyone was hit with a cement milkshake, it would have undoubtedly resulted in pictures of a very thick milkshaked fascist. But there was none. This is just a myth to try and make antifa look bad.
If anyone has actual proof of cement being used, post it and I will openly admit I am wrong. Hell, I'll even make you a mod on this subreddit, as long as you follow the rules we have set up. Otherwise, you may be banned at the discretion of the mods for peddling fake news.
Meanwhile, there is video evidence of an anti-antifa protester throwing some strange white powder onto the antifa side. Does the right care about this actual proven instance of what may be a chemical attack? Doubt it.
