grafitti
    #2548282 - 04/11/04 07:24 AM (19 years, 11 months ago)

I went out to some cliffs I live nearby to yesterday and found some joker had spraypainted some bullshit on some vertical rocks at the top. What a shitty thing to do. Is that why people do grafitti, to make the world look ugly?
So should I just get a can of gray spraypaint similar to the color of the rocks underneath and give it a new layer on top or is there a better way to get rid of it?

I really like the idea that they have in Malmo, Sweden (at least I think it is in Malmo...) They have a certain wall in the city-center, and you have to submit a project idea to whoever is in charge of the wall... then you can do your grafiti, and it stays up for a certain amount of time until it is replaced by something else... This way there are no crappy "Bart Wuz Here" tags (or at least less of them), and those that actually do art with spray-paint have a legal forum to express it on...

My university has a tunnel where anybody can go and graffitti whatever they want on the walls, ceiling, floor (if it's too offensive it'll be taken down though). It's used to announce parties, websites, campaigning for student elections, and people's art too. THere's lots of "Legalize it!" with a pot leaf next to it, heh. The tunnel's a cool idea, there's no graffitti anywhere else on campus.

the corp of engineers spent weeks covering up grafitti here. they used paint that was the same color as the bluff. it still doesn't look right, but it looks a hell of a lot better than before.

there was a cool image of garfield that somebody had made (i was sad to see that go), but most of it was retarded crap like "bush light rules" or "billy bob was here." apparently, the bottom of the gene pool had finally figured out how to use spray paint.

Grafitti is a VALID ARTFORM people. GAWD, we do not just go write on random things to deface property, as you are most likely assuming. Be a little more open minded.

It'd be so much better if they just huffed the cans rather than actually using them.

Well then put your art on your own damn property and stay off mine. And what's the point in graffiti-ing rocks out in the wilderness? There is none.

it's really depressing to see beautiful sites destroyed by graffiti. I love artwork - don't get me wrong- and i consider some graffiti artwork. being in the city - you get to see all types of graffiti. my tattoo artist actually was allowed to do the whole side of a building and it's AMAZING. A beautiful sunest and stuff. So nice. Most of the basketball courts are also really cool to look at - even some of the abandoned subway trains at the yard have some nice things. however - there is no reason to put your "artwork" in nature - where it does not belong.
