My morel patch fruited again!
    #2546558 - 04/10/04 11:46 AM (20 years, 11 days ago)

Went to take a look today in a plum orchard I seeded with morels a few years back and found these

Quarter in the middle for a size reference

This orchard has been fruiting every spring for the past 4 years or so, took me about a half hour to pick all these and they're pretty much right outside the door  .  There's another orchard down the road I saw they spread to a couple years back that I still haven't checked too.  Got more pics but I'm out of upload space.  Enjoy!  I know I will :yesnod:

Cool! Did you cultivate them in the first place or did they spring up naturally? That's a nice score, I haven't tasted morels yet, though, sound pretty yummy.

I dumped water that I used to wash some I found a few years ago with in one of the orchards.  They ended up spreading throughout the whole thing and to other plum orchards around here, even though I only dumped the water in one spot.  Morels are grubbin, especially these nice yellow/white ones.  Definitely my favorite edibles.  This made my week .

are they tasty? do you eat morels plain or cooked up in dishes? they look like brains.

You soak morels in salt water over night to kills bugs, then bread and fry em up. Morel's are great!

Nice morels!  It's definately time to take a trip east of the mountains.  What elevation were those found at?  What city?  :wexican:

Yeah, I cook them pretty much the same way Royale said, I might post a little pictorial in the next few days if I get around to it.

The ones pictured were found at about 800-900 feet.  Went down to the river with my dad yesterday afternoon and picked another pound or 2 of Morchella semilibera in 2 nice patches.  Elevation is a little lower there, probably 500ft. or so.  Didn't have my camera with me, so I couldn't get any pics of those, might try to post some of picked ones later.  The orchard patch was irrigated and down on the river we only found them in really low spots that were wet from high water.  With the weather these past couple days I'm expecting them to be coming up towards ellensburg/cle elum soon though, hopefully we get some rain...

yeah, I've lived here for years, never noticed them in any of the orchards until the spring after I dumped the wash water in one.
