seriously is that you? i dont want to go through your post history to verify. it just seems awfully conspicuous, the photo is of a person who is not only obese but is literally eating a plateful of tendies. just smells like trolling to me but sorry if that actually is you, good luck. i used to be almost that heavy and now I am super in shape. took 3.5 years though

I dont think I should be the person the person to start with that. Besides I already have my own weight loss thread that I update every couple months with my progress photos

So I've been sick since the day this started; no exercise happening. Been trying to eat better and avoid snacks. 73.9 this morning. I think of this thread when I wanna eat shit and it works to deter me.

Same. I've had one piece of pizza, a biscuit w gravy, an egg, 1.5 monster energies and a small slice of pizza. I'm catching up on hella veggies when I get home.

Weighed in at 182lb. Goal is 75kg. I gained 10+ pounds recently just from smoking weed so I've got a head start on getting back down by not doing that.

inhaled weed smoke doesn't have any calories in it. i smoke weed daily and stay lean by running 3-4miles, lifting for ~50mins every day, and avoiding fats as much as possible. I know lowcarb, high fat is popular right now but it's a bunch of horseshit, carbs are much less energy dense, far more nutrient rich, and overall far more enjoyable to consume

Since moving here my running has gotten better and better, I feel so much stronger.

5 miles is a long run dude
If you run 5 miles daily it is basically impossible to be overweight

By running standards, it's not long.  When you train for half marathons you want to incorporate a couple of long runs into your week which are runs 10+ miles.

People who "just getting in shape" are not training for half marathons. By uh, comparing to what the average person does standards, running 5 miles involves running probably about 1000% more than the average person runs on a given day. You don't need to be a marathon runner to be in shape. In fact, many  marathon runners have an arguably poor body composition from excessive cardio causing their body to upregulate lipogenetic enzymes and hormones that are anabolic for fat (as compared against people who lift weights and just do moderate cardio). the body does this because it anticipates more intense cardio in the future. In any case if you have a life, it's hard to fit more than a 5 mile run into your daily schedule, and a 5 mile run is more than sufficient to burn enough calories to keep you in a significant deficit to lose weight unless you're just an absolute pig.

Anyone know how accurate the calorie counter is on exercise machines? The elliptical machine shows around 10-15 calories burnt per minute. Does that seem right?

I'm not sure how accurate they are. I know the "Curve" is full of shit, it will claim you've burnt 90 cals in 5 minutes. That is virtually impossible. 50 cals in 5 minutes is believable. the treadmill says I end up burning about 125cals per mile @ 6.5mph

i am a skeptic generally speaking but i have been trying this thing called the adrenal cocktail lately and i swear to god it's making a difference. in terms of weight loss it means i can get away with eating more calories and still lose weight. but it does a lot of other things.

1 orange
1/4tsp cream of tartar (potassium bicarbonate)
pinch of salt
1tbsp bee pollen

after using it for 3 days start supplementing chelated magnesium (definitely magnesium citrate)

let me know if this does anything for you. i am just curious. i've been doing it for a couple of weeks at least once a day and i feel like my metabolism has been rev'd up.

based on research from Morley Robinson's "Root Cause Protocol".

a lot of folks are skeptical and i was too cuz the dude is clearly making money on this but you don't have to purchase the products they suggest you buy, you can just buy whatever's available and it seems to work as well. I study health science and biology and a lot of the stuff does make sense to me based on what I've learned.

i'[m pretty much a fat ass these days. got up to around 265 at my fattest, decided i really need to start doing SOMETHING... i'll be damned if i hit 300. that was last november. i've lost a bit since then, not as much as i would have liked. been having a hard time with the motivation. i've been a yo-yo between 235-240 for about the last month or so. ultimately i'd like to see myself back around 195-200. if i can get there, i'll cut to 185 and get into some armature mma going on around here. might be fun to get my ass kicked a bit. it's mostly a lot of unrelated stress (excuses) keeping me from doing what i got to do. just got to get over myself. it will happen.

now that I am in shape I am thinking very seriously about taking up martial arts. it's expensive though

What are you wanting out of a martial art? My advice will apply differently depending. And one person might never look at martial arts again if they tried boxing but would be a lifer if they tried aikido, and vice versa.

mostly to associate with other people who are psychologically self-disciplined. plus sparring is fun

4.6 mile run in 35 minutes and 25 seconds today. Took 45 seconds off my last time, which was 3 minutes faster than the time before that. Average mile time 7:46. Get at me brothers. Where's the cardio at, you guys are all bi's and tri's, purely glamour muscles.

cardio isn't really that great for you especially when done chronically it causes increased cortisol which can lower testosterone and fuck up your endocrine system

cardio is much better for, well, your cardiovascular health than resistance training. the cortisol response to intense cardio is a natural evolutionary response that mobilizes blood sugar by inhibiting insulin from moving it into the cells. becoming skinnyfat as a result of being a marathon runner is definitely a thing, but everyone who isn't an elite level powerlifter/bodybuilder can benefit from a 20 minute 160-180bpm cardio daily sesh. and frankly those guys would benefit from it too, just not in the way they want to benefit.

the primary inducer of hypercortisolism is just plain stress... bills, relationships, work, etc. increases in glutamate > GABA conversion associated with reasonable amounts of cardio will outweigh any subjective problems caused by exercise induced cortisol increases

at comparable levels of training they absolutely do. takes a toll on your joints. you also have to keep in mind though that a lot of those dudes are taking anabolic steroids which are terrible for you in terms of heart health and susceptibility to cancer

i lift high reps at weight pretty well below what i am capable of lifting. in terms of muscle growth the only thing that matters is total volume, you dont have to lift heavy. but lifting heavy will make you stronger despite equal amounts of muscle growth
