Please forgive my noob question, but all i've done so far is PF TEK with SGFC, and I asked the question of what should I advance to first after doing PF TEK with SGFC. I was directed here, and i'm just in the research phase now. So I thought I had a good idea of how FAE works because a SGFC has like 500 holes in it, but now I see that you're leaving the lids on with practically no FAE, and you're getting nice fruits. Is there something simple that I overlooked here, or can someone offer an explanation as to where the gas exchange is occuring in this method. I'm going to re-read it and see if I answer my own question, but any answers would be much appreciated.

The imperfect lid on a shoebox provides enough gas exchange while colonizing. Flipping the lid provides enough FAE whenever you decide to put it into "fruiting conditions". The substrate on a shoebox provides relative humidity So it's pretty much set it and forget it.

The cracks around the top of a tub allow for enough FAE to keep the mushrooms happy. Whether you flip the lid or dub-tub(second tub upside down on top) it's enough with little need to finagle it.

IMO/E the larger unmodded tubs get signs of low FAE and need to have the lids adjusted for more air.

Why, I'm not sure. Maybe something to due with how a SGFC requires air flowing up through perlite to maintain moisture. There's actually an unmodded alternative to sfgc(no holes) that's workin well lately. Mateah's Humidity Chamber if you wanna check it out.

BRF cakes to bulk are indeed the best intro to bulk, and a method I still use. My first grow was grated cakes in trays.

Think I'm getting a bit warmer. Having to baby my tubs individually to get them to preform has been a task given I'm not always home. Had too many issues maintaining RH and surface moisture while supplying enough fresh air to consider my previous efforts a success granted I learned.

Long story short I opted to place a couple of my shoeboxes in a sgfc. Pinning was achieved the old fashion way, misting and fanning with the shoebox lid significantly cracked. I think I'll continue to induce fruiting this way then place them in the sgfc after my pinset comes in and let it run. At the very least the sgfc will maintain the RH and FAE while I'm gone as opposed to starving my subs for FAE because I pop the lids back on while I'm gone to prevent drying.

A couple specimens have cracked caps from low RH from before going into the sgfc, the same specimens also exhibit split caps due to rapid growth over night thanks to the sgfc. This seems to be the most effective and lowest cost/maintenance route for me to go with my given environment, just need to mist every now and again, and make sure to fan out any C02 that may have settled on the surface of the sub due to the walls of the shoebox.

These subs went into fruit around 14ish days after spawn. Something tells me if I fruit from birth like most of the more experienced growers suggest, I may see some actual performance out of this culture. Consideration is being given to isolation of my culture.

Sounds like too much FAE, dial it back

Can't stop won't stop lol. Seriously though, do you suggest this because of the cracked caps? Still think those cracked caps occurred before going into the sgfc, but I'll know for sure as this next shoebox finishes up. Finally getting more full flushes that seem to rocket in growth over night. That picture above of the pinning box is just about ready to harvest. Thinking I'm going to let it go till tomorrow night, see if it can manage to fill in for me.

I was wondering if there was a way to verify how well the SGFC was performing as far as convection currents go, apparently I just needed to let some of my specimens sporulate. I would assume rather than cake my perlite, side of my sgfc, and/or shoebox a working sgfc would end up venting most of the spores out the top of the unit as evidenced here on the edge of my fc.

I have a feeling that my sgfc's location is hindering the amount of FAE coming in through the back and one side (in my closet). I plan to remedy this by simply turning my shoeboxes 180% several times during the fruiting process to ensure even FAE and C02 dissipation (of course with my help misting and fanning).

Why do you have a shoebox in a SGFC? Dubtub it on a shelf in an open room, don't fan, and only mist when there's no surface moisture, allowing evaporation to occur between mistings...

Dubtub of pf red my very first attempt.  I can't seem to fuck it upother than I forgot bottom bags so i'm loaded with side,  bottom top edge and stacked pins.  Pins on top of pins.  But i'm not complaining.  For me it's kicking ass.
