I wasn’t going to try again for quite a while but...I’m considering trying agar this weekend as some folks are out of the house for the weekend. I’ve got the ingredients specified for pasty whites agar tek but I’m not sure, I also got Petri dishes and the like to go the extra mile. Can I make agar with the pasty whites tek ingredients and still use a pour agar tek? I’m really frustrated with it. I want to this to work out but after all the failures I’m kinda doubting myself.
I wasn’t able to procure a pressure cooker either...

I use standard MEA agar, with anywhere between 5-9g of agar powder to 500ml of water, depending on west I'm using it for... I can't attend no pour plates

Yes... any agar recipe will work for any application... I use soft agar for spore germination and A2G plates, and regular (10g agar powder to 500ml of water) for A2A transfers... though I used soft agar last transfer set and may start doing that: in the interest of resource conservation

Okay awesome I’m wondering how that equates into the ratios by using a bottle to pour into.
I don’t know I will figure it out when I get off work, lol. I just hope I can get the agar sterile by steam...
That’s really putting me off, how can I go about it to ensure sterilization?

No...
I’m still trying to borrow one. I may go to Walmart after work today but I can’t afford to spend loads of money at the moment. I just left my good job and I bought a newish car lol.

Well I got the only pressure cooker I could find at Walmart, a 80$ 23 quart. Hopefully it will suffice my small scale cultivation op for at least a year...if I even manage to make it work unlike last time.
I’m probably going to give it a go tonight. I can inoculate as soon as the agar is in the Petri and at room temp or does it take longer to solidify? God I wish I had some chem experience.

It solidifies and cools down in 5-10 min depending on how thick you pour.

Well I gave it a shot, left it in the PC overnight as it was very late. Had to reheat it to liquefy it. The last bit was thick and goopy. I’m unsure how it’ll turn out. I guess we will see. I’m not expecting much. I don’t think I’m in the right back environment to cultivate. I’m in no position to be meticulous, thorough, patient, and as sterile as I’d like. We will see.

That's one of the better ones if you're on a budget for sure. You are going to be able to load up 7 to 10 jars in that bad boy and rock. Super easy use and maintenance. Good luck!

So I have some growth also have some small contamination. Agar seems to have made this much easier, I will try to make some more plates in the next couple days.

The colony at 11 o’clock looks good. If that’s an area that you put spores then it’s a good bet. Make a transfer and see how it does.

Thanks man! It is, you can see where I’ve used the syringe if you look closely.
I’m gonna have to make so more agar plates to transfer to. I’m glad I took the chance to do agar and not give up when I tried to inoculate with spore syringe. I have a lot more hope with this method of cultivation. I’ve had a lot of fun doing it too.

Don’t wrap your plates with tape next time, gonna be a pain to get off. Use cling wrap or parafilm.
