Psilocybe cyanescens
Panaeolus cyanescens
Copelandia cyanescens

Just a quick question... How are these names derived? im not 100%, but arnt the cope/pan the same shroom...

the question is, what does the cyanescens name mean? is that the family or, something else... are they all different species or related...

just curious..

Panaeolus cyanescens = Copelandia cyanescens

I don't know exactly what cyanescens means, but I suspect it has something to do with the blueing of the shrooms when bruised.

paneolus is the family name, cyanescens the species name.
so psylocybe is another family. but they're all in the fungi group.
(I could be wrong, someone plese correct me if i am :smirk:)

Copelandia cyanescens and Panaeolus cyanescens are the same mushroom following two distinct p taxonomic pathways. Both Copelandia and panaeolus are members of the family of mushrooms known as Coprinaeceae.

Psilocybe cyanescens is a member of the genera Psilocybe and belonges to the Strophariaceae family in the Agaricales.

Cyanescens means of blue
Psilocybe means naked-head

cyanescens and azurescens are both latin present participles meaning "blueing" but different shades of blue
