the only question not asked is a dumb question!and umm poke a hole diagonaly in one of the corners and stick a rubber tube inside and run the other end in an empty 2 liter soda bottle. And umm use WIDE MOUTH 1/2 pint jars! He believes that the regular jars just take too much time to colinize. Where he lives he can get brown rice flour at the local Hy-Vee! He also believes that the kits are a waste of money! He wishes good luck and good karma to you.

My friend followed the pf tek as far as substrate, formula, to the letter and had great success. I would use this tek if I were you. As for the terrarium, he used a ten gallon tank with a sealed lid, and 2 inches of perilite in the bottom. He waived out the terrrarium twice a day. He kept the perilite wet, but not so much that you could see more that a 1/4 inch of water on the bottom. My friend use 1/2 pints, which colonized in 2-3 weeks, and has had great flushes. My friend has had better results with buying whole brown rice, (mahatma), and sticking it in the food processor for a whil until there were only small chunks left (about 10-15 minutes). My friend would say that a kit is a waste of money. Especially when you are succesful this time (by following the pf tek), and decide to expand and expieriment. I hope this helps...

I buy brown rice everytime I go grocery shopping. It costs about $1.00/pound. I take it and throw it into my blender for about 1 minute with a 250mg capsule if calcium, and 1/8 teaspoon of breweres yeart. these little additions to my substrate seem to help them fruit and colonize faster. my FOAF got his B+ to have in multiple in vitro pinnings. this was without cold shocking or anyting like that. ------------------ To see the light is not enough.. brainnoise

I really like the tiny 1/4 pint jars because I use the cakes to crumble and case. Super quick growth. I can't remember how well they do as cakes, though. Half pints are super for general purpose cakes. Only dissadvantage to small jars is that you need twice as many 1/4 pints than 1/2 pints for the same amount of substrate. No biggie.
