Why don't people in the Southeast Coast move?
    #25458043 - 09/13/18 08:10 PM (2 years, 7 months ago)

I understand these tropical coastal states are beautiful, but it's just not worth the annual existential threat of hurricanes. Goddamn people, this is no way to live... sell your 2-bedroom houses and buy yourself a mansion in Cleveland.

i'd rather live in florida and risk dying in a catastrophic storm a few times a year than live a long and healthy life in cleveland.

The southeast coast is a very poor part of the country.

Because insurance doesn't charge them enough for their houses.

Oregon, California, and Nevada are the shit! You got tropical beaches, northwest beaches with cliffs, deserts, mountains, old growth forest, grassland valleys, volcanoes, forest fires, tsunamis, legal weed...

Forest fires happen in very remote areas, usually wealthy suburbs. Average people in CA live in dense, concrete jungles, so they don't have to worry about it.

And in the 30 years of living in Los Angeles, we've never had a single tsunami threat. And I don't know what volcano you're talking about... unless you mean the super volcano in Wyoming.

At least they get plenty of notice that a hurricane is coming. We get no notice of a quake.

I lived in Florida and moved to California, mostly because it was hot, ugly, and boring. It was hard because the wages are really low there and the cost of living is pretty low too. It's the opposite in California. I went from a poor place to an expensive place. It works itself out pretty quick, but can be scary if you've never moved.

Plus their families live there and the heat makes everyone crazy.

You know the cascades are volcanic mountains, right? There are a string of volcanoes all the way from British Columbia to east of San Diego. There are 20 volcanoes in California.

Shasta and surrounding mountains are volcanoes; pretty much the end of the Cascade range

Bear Buttes in southern Humboldt is debated to be a volcano.  sure as hell looks like one that blew its top long ago, and people that live near it have reported finding volcanic rock.

Then you got Lassen sounth of shasta, warner mts to the east where world famous rainbow obsidian comes from, and more east near reno like mt petersen, and mt thompson, and then you got the sierras, as well as all of the extinct volcanoes in the desert ranges of southern california.

Do you have any evidence to support that claim? Do you live in Florida?

OP: I don’t move because there is plenty of time to prepare, I have a generator, Insurance, hurricane shutters surrounding the house and a garage. If you don’t have experience with Hurricanes I can understand that question though.

i lived in florida for almost two decades. there are tons of very fucking poor people there, and tons of incredibly rich people. basically a microcosm for the wealth gap in this country. but definitely a lot of people who cant afford to evacuate, let alone relocate.

What a moronic question OP. Why don't all the people in third world countries move to first world ones too huh?

I wouldn’t say that the southeast is anymore poor than other areas. There is wealth, mediocrity, and poverty everywhere.
