CQC/CQB Tactics and Strategy * 1
    #25340823 - 07/22/18 03:28 PM (5 years, 6 months ago)

Greetings,

I like the idea of contributing to the shroomery because it has already given me so much.

Intro
  • I am a navy veteran
  • I am combat trained well beyond that of the average sailor or marine.
  • I was never Special Operations but I worked with elements of SEAL Teams 3 and 7.
  • The primary area of my training was in Maritime Interdiction Operations (MIO) and Expanded MIO as a VBSS Operator. We would interdict vessels, looking for reasonable justification, then board them for investigation and documentation. Sometimes they "objected".
  • A secondary area of knowledge would be in Breaching. Mostly mechanical, but some ballistic. EOD is still way above me though.
  • I was even operating off the coast of Yemen in 2015. It was a shit show and very disheartening to say the least. Human trafficking, drugs/guns etc.
  • I did six years, and now I monitor Global Security/Climate and filter intelligence for a major actor in Oil and Gas industry.
  • Also, i went to Crypto-linguist school for russian, yet didnt actually do that job despite completing the school. (i got in trouble) I worked as an operations specialist instead.
  • Thanks to the Shroomery, I've started a degree in Biology with aspirations to move to Biochemistry. Wish me luck.

The Discussion:
I would like to open this forum up to questions about home defense, safe/responsible implementation of a firearm, close quarters combat/close quarters battle with and without a firearm, fitness for combat and self defense, etc.
I would be most useful to anyone inquiring, if their query had elements of a restricted nature to their battle area similar to that of a ship or small vessel. This includes homes, offices, schools, or some such. This absolutely excludes traditional thoughts on urban combat tactics and strategy. Those still require an understanding/training that I cannot communicate reliably.
The value in understanding, as opposed to being practiced, is that community knowledge of what makes an effective combatant or even active shooter as has become common these days will enable individuals to defeat such actors. maybe prevent another sandy hook or Columbine

Here is a freebee on Breaching

And some basics:
  • Four weapons safety rules:
    • Treat every weapon as if it were loaded
    • Never point the weapon at anything that you do not intend to shoot
    • Keep your finger straight and off the trigger until you intend to fire
    • Keep weapon on safe until you intend to fire.

  • Deadly Force Triangle:
    • Capabilty - Do they have the means to employ deadly force?
    • Opportunity - Do they have the occasion to utilize those means?
    • Intent - Do they appear to desire to follow through?
    • all three must be met to reasonably employ deadly force

  • Deadly Force is defined as the force that a person uses that they know, or should know, would create a substantial risk of death or serious/grievous bodily harm - this may vary by place of residence.
  • Force is that which is used to compel by physical or psychological means
  • Deadly force should only be employed when it is absolutely necessary and all lesser means have been exhausted or cannot be reasonably employed.
  • Force Continuum (IN ORDER):
    1. Presence - simply existing in a way that reduces the likelihood of altercation
    2. Verbal - using commands or coercion to deter the threat
    3. Soft Controls - pushing and/or non-damaging manipulation (judo/jujitsu/wrestling)
    4. Hard controls - Striking and high-risk joint manipulation
    5. Intermediate Weapons - Bat, stick, force that can injure
    6. Deadly Force - Last resort may be the first resort depending on circumstances.
    [/list]

This Wikipedia page has a great sortable table for making round decisions.

Some considerations for a home defense firearm (which I DO NOT recommend because its unrealistic) may be things like recoil, rate of fire, and most importantly penetration. You want to fire and it not make it through the exterior walls. Knowing what is beyond your field of fire is a major safety principle in the employment of a firearm.

My suggestion is to use a pipe, sword(lol, but seriously kinda), or a baton of some sort. You would still use classic movement like "pie-ing" one's corners, but just with the extremities of your implement. Disarmament is a great deterrent that has a low incidence of your home defense resulting in greater chance on injury. Most attempts injuries or deaths in attempts at home defense are fratricidal.

I see the view count go up on this thread; Feedback here or in the form of PM is appreciated. If i get no feed back, then I won't waste the effort in trying to generate content.

I am well aquainted with an Article 1 Federal Magistrate Judge, and I ran this page by him. He has vouched for it's at least 99% accuracy. He mentioned that he will not dismiss Wikipedia so quickly in the future.

I am posting again because i was inquired privately about responsible use and ownership of a firearm.

As always TRAINING IS PARAMOUNT, FIRST AND FOREMOST

It is important to know the laws and statutes in your state. Being an armchair lawyer is a dangerous proposition, but it may be necessary nonetheless.

    From Texas Penal Code:
