Banisteriopsis longialata
    #2545293 - 04/09/04 11:56 PM (14 years, 15 days ago)

Quote:

Banisteriopsis longialata Mapighiaceae. Sometimes used to prepare "ayahuasca". Contains high quantities of tryptamine derivatives: DMT, MMT, 5-MeO-DMT, bufotenine, and traces of beta-carboline.

From Amazonian Ethnobotanical Dictionary by James Alan Duke and Rodolfo Vasquez Martinez

Anyone know anything about this plant? Perhaps a picture?

The book was published in 1994. Anyways, Murple came through with an ID:

According to http://www.ars-grin.gov/~sbmljw/cgi-bin/taxon.pl?417806 this is a synonym for Banisteria rusbyana, which was renamed to Diplopterys cabrerana long ago. That fits nicely with the alkaloids named in your reference.

how interesting to know the synonymia, besides that, the bufotenine might account for the over tripping reported by the chagropanga users.
good to know that murple is alive. people miss him and his humor. =)
