Maybe just add a bit more verm for the top layer
Did g2g this morning, spawned 5 new boxes, now it's time to harvest these guys

Have a good Sunday my shoebox bretheren

Is that a 1:1 ratio?
Thanks lucky genetics
Not sure exact ratios, I split 1 brick of coir to 6qt spawn in 5 boxes I believe
@legend I am 100% sure they aren't ecuador. Yeah I started these a while back with a friend and we didn't label well made a clone and it's been my best cube so far

Light is not a pinning trigger, full colonization and FAE are... side pins are a result of less than ideal surface conditions... tamp the sides slightly at spawn, and maintain proper surface moisture to avoid them

Good info. Once again, I read so much stating that light is a trigger. But this makes sense.

There's all kinds of old info out there. Maybe light does help in some amount, but we colonize our jars in light from the get-go.
When it comes to side pins, blocking light isn't gonna help you. Pack your edges a bit and most importantly get your surface conditions right. With a decent pinset you won't get many side pins.

I appreciate that but seems to me like you want to combine remedies for all factors.. colonization of jars in light does not really count as it is a different growth stage.
IMO the best option is to do both: block light on the sides and do what you can to prevent a gaping but humid crevice from forming on the sides of your myc which has better conditions for fruiting than the top.
It might be an experimental solution but maybe one could use casing / wet verm to fill the sides maybe even preventively..
What seems like good wisdom is that side-pinning is a symptom of less than ideal conditions so one shouldn't focus on only treating symptoms but also the cause.
Edit: vVv definitely man i agree VVV

Fair enough. A jar isn't exactly the same as a tub.
From what I've seen, people trying to block light with stuff like tape don't seem to get what they're looking for. So I kinda stear away from it.
Liners will help, I forgot about those. 2 layers of plastic, one sticks to the tub and one to the sub. They help eliminate the microclimate when the sub shrinks back a bit. If you have dark bags they'll block light to I guess.
That last bit is what I'm really trying to get across. Once you can get your surface conditions right, you don't need anything to prevent the side pins. Best thing for that is gonna be practice imo.

Liner might be cool so I can get around claning tubs.
Otherwise a waste of time, say that having never tried myself

Heres one good advatange of not having a liner. This tub was from a jar that I tried the hydration method of adding a little bit of water and throwing it in the PC to hydrate the grains. No soak. Was bit too dry, burst some grains and took over a month to colonize. Will be sticking to hydrating em before PCing.
Being I do not have a liner I see what is probably some bacterial action judgeing by the metabolites and creamy area. If it was taped I wouldnt have known because the surface looks ok but not without bacterial question. Now I see more evidence of a issue.
