I remember that. That's where I first got the honor killing idea from.

Like, that was straight up an honor killing in his mind. He believed his kids were better off dead than...part serpent?

Like damn, dude. Go easy on the harry potter.

Parents are free to homeschool their kids if they don't want them to learn what the other kids are learning. The anti-evolution crowd has been doing it for decades. The racists can do the same

Lol. These cowardly entitled douchebag "teachers", fresh out of college and probably on their first job, are just upset that parents are standing up for their children. They can't tolerate even a little bit of criticism.

Now fuck off with your strawman bullshit.

OK. Fresh out of college teachers on their first job are the ones making policy and running the school boards?

This has nothing to do with most teachers of any age leaning left because they're, uh, educated.

Nothing says entitled like being a parent to three dozen of someone else’s children for half your day and barely getting paid minimum wage to do so.

I was a counselor at a day camp one summer for elementary school aged kids and it was the most exhausting job I’ve ever had

Are you accounting for 3 months off in that wage calculation?

Not saying it isn't a hard job but I've known a few teachers and they do alright. Not one of them has to crawl through the dirt for 8hrs or brand themselves on hot pipes as part of their employment.

Considering that the three industries that are currently most impacted by worker shortages seem to be hospitality, skilled healthcare, and teaching, I think some conclusions can be drawn about the lives of teachers.

It seems reasonable that the main conclusion is: "Being a teacher fucking blows, man"

Meh, like I said, the ones I know do alright. Those probably are the 3 highest covid risk industries though. Not sure if that plays into anything...

Traditionally teachers pay was based almost entirely on seniority, so it pays if you can stand it long enough. Now they usually go back and get a Masters Degree which boosts pay. This is required in Massachusetts. The tax base of each school district is also a major determinant.

Of course, some states also link retirement to continuing to work as a teacher. Like Texas!

No SS if you;re a teacher in Texas. And if you quit, you lose your entire retirement.

A former cop kidnapped his two kids. His accomplice was another cop. All four died in a murder suicide when their car was spotted on a highway

Criminality is a very interesting concept.

I read the following paragraph a few days ago:

Quote:

Carrying  concealed  weapons  is a special  topic  within the broader  one. It's worth close  study  because, while  keeping  material  concealed  is not illegal,  carrying  a weapon concealed  is, in some jurisdictions. Criminals,  of course, tend to carry  concealed  weapons,  which  is what gave rise to the laws pertaining to them.  What the iaw doesn't  officially acknowledge  is that in most  instances  a concealed  weapon is on the person  of an otherwise  law-abiding  citizen who carries it as a defense  against crime.

"In most instances, a concealed weapon is on the person of an otherwise law-abiding citizen"...who is, by definition, a criminal in this case.

A murderer, for example, is an otherwise law-abiding citizen who has happened to kill someone. a rapist is an otherwise law-abiding citizen who rapes someone. A criminal is an otherwise law-abiding citizen who has committed a crime.

And, of course, there is a bit of a wink wink nudge nudge you know who I'm talking about type thing going on, but this kind of thing is pretty common.

Another example, somewhat famous recently, was that one overpass between LA and that one small republican town. California, as a state, has legalized street camping. It is perfectly legal to pitch a tent, and it is illegal for the cops to come and wreck your shit. But when you see it on Fox News, it's LA that's "allowing criminality", while the cops in the small republican town, who actively commit crimes when they illegally clear the streets, are "upholding the law".

It's almost like some people have this idea of what the law just naturally is. I guess it's a bit like those "God-given" rights. Other people, the CRIMINALS, carry concealed weapons, but I carry a concealed weapon illegally for my protection. I'm not a criminal, it's just the law fails to acknowledge my innocence for some reason.

I don't know this guy personally but I know his mom (the detective in the story), dad, and siblings and more.  The dad is a cop too but raped a hooker in his squad car, quit without being charged and promised to never be a cop again, immediately took another job as a cop and within 2 months sexually assaulted 2 more women, had to quit that job and now works for another local police agency (I'm guessing he got better at selecting victims that wouldn't come forward)

The two cops got divorced after the rape stuff and before we knew any of this, the mom who is a detective in charge of "child sexual abuse prevention" didn't want my daughter spending the night with her daughter at her house and would often suggest they go stay at the rapist cop dad's house.  Seriously... This guy would bust into the room at 2AM and say to his daughter and mine, "what up bitches?! or what's up hookers?!"  I thought it was pretty fucked up at the time (she didn't go back after I found out) but not as fucked up as I did after I found out what he likes to do to hookers.  This is just the meatiest parts of their bullshit.  There is more but it's too much and I hope that wasn't confusing enough already.  Needless to say, we don't have contact with any of them anymore since clearly they are all evil muther fuckas

From the article: "He bragged that he could get away with things because his mom was a detective" He is currently in custody with a $250,000 bond

https://www.illinoistimes.com/springfield/serious-allegations/Content?oid=14298717

And this about the dad: Sexually abusive cops get moved around as if they were priests

"In Southern View, the village in 2013 paid $40,000 to settle a lawsuit filed by a woman who said that she was groped by Officer J. Zeid Langan in his squad car less than two months after he was hired. It isn't clear whether Zeid Langan is related to Tricia Langan. The village hired Zeid Langan after he resigned from the Springfield Police Department when a prostitute reported that she'd performed a sex act on him in his patrol car and investigators found a used condom in Lincoln Park, where the woman said that it would be. Charged with official misconduct and battery for assaulting the woman in Southern View, Zeid Langan pleaded guilty to misdemeanors and promised that he never again would seek a job as a cop."

Yeah, I wondered if that was it.  Everybody was up in arms when the Catholic church was moving abusive priests to protect them but it's seems no one really cares when police depts do it

I just looked it up and as far as I can tell, the guy still works for a small local police dept as a dispatcher so at least he's not on the streets with cuffs and a gun but still...3 credible allegations of on the clock sexual assault and he still has a fucking badge and NO criminal charges.  I'm sure his cop-wife (ex-wife now) has something to do with it

Can you imagine if schools tried doing this with teachers?
