Can? Yes. Does typically? No. It's just not a part of our values to have people taken from their families and locked in cages for minor bullshit. This is why people get angry about teenagers getting LWOP for drug offenses and shit.

i lived thru the thick of the drug war last 40 years. the only thing id appreciate about cops is if they all ate dirt and drank sewage in concentration camps.

I'm not even in favor of curfew, but if a state is allowed to have curfew, it seems odd if they're not allowed to enforce it.
They can enforce it...I just said they can write a citation.
Ah, so they can decide not to enforce the curfew they were called in to enforce?
That makes me wonder if I can decide not to do the jobs I'm assigned to do at my work...
I guess I can if I'm willing to face the consequences.

Comparing this to the rape hypothetical, the victim's actions immediately before would be relevant, but not her decision to wear a miniskirt that night.
Bad examples.
The relevant example in this case would be the guy defiantly walking up to a line of cops clearing out the square and blocking their path.
Pushing the guy away was an overreaction. They should have written a citation and let him break the curfew they were called in to enforce.
Wrotong a citation for the offense is enforcing the curfew. Its just not uaing force to enforce it.

I mean if the cops slamed everyone's head into the ground for speeding we would have a lot less speeders. Falcon has a point. Cops should harm people to enforce low level misdemeanor crimes.

Speeding is a crime in a lot of states. In some, it's a violation. Either way, it's a distinction without a difference.

Holy make believe dude, where did I say cops should slam people's head in the ground?

I also attack my side if I think they're wrong. People here get very confused by that and think it means I prefer the other side.

If there's one guy that's into semantics more than me, it's Enlil.
Reread the discussion here, or anywhere else in this thread, and tell me where you think I was out of line. I was simply asking why you disagreed with me after I agreed it was homicide (this is my 4th request for this).

The way you relentlessly were begging people to answer what should the cops have done just leads people to believe you think they did the right thing.
What are they just not supposed to enforce curfew. They already asked him to leave. What are they just supposed to let him keep trespassing. My girlfriend saw something different. Etc...
That's why I'm "make believing". Because you only gave me the tools to paint one picture. And that's the I think cops should be thugs picture.
So I agree you never suggested it because of your careful wording. But subtext is a thing.

Sometimes it looks like he’s playing devils advocate, but then you realize he’s always taking the devils side.
His favorite leaders are Maduro, Putin, Assad and MBS, so I don’t think it’s a stretch to assume he’s down for a little state suppression of dissent.

No, it means I genuinely wanted an answer to what cops should have done. I'm surprised people here think a guy who defied police orders to go home would just go home if given a citation. He has a history of arrests including two at the White House.

Like the cops know his history. And like it matters. And like it matters if he went home or not.
You defend one side so much. Devils advocate makes people think you also believe what the devil says. You're not just a defense attorney for the devil and it's clear from your posts. If you're comfortable with your authoritarian ideas that's cool but don't pretend you're for liberty
No one is confused... We know you carefully pick and choose your words as to always be in plausible deniability of association with the "other side". But you're quite at home there.
I play devil's advocate so much so people hate me for it. But there's something different about your playing the devil's advocate. With enough evidence it's like a scratch off lottery. Slowly it chips away and reveals your ideals and true opinions.
