I’m way too complacent
    #25439907 - 09/06/18 01:55 PM (2 years, 8 months ago)

I am not some fucked up depressed soul that does tons of drugs. I am someone who drinks too much on the weekends, watches too much porn, is frivolous with money, not pushing hard enough, Doing too much kratom and coffee, watching too much Netflix too

I have a shitty sleep schedule. I’m not a fuck up or a complete slob. But I’m someone who is getting by. I am in a field where I can get away with normal amounts of work and effort but I want more than that. I don’t wanna waste all my potential (which I am)

I am too damn complacent. Anyone have any solutions?

I have gotten damn in shape and damn successful from pulling myself out of a deep depression multiple times before

Anyone have any tips on motivation? I’m thinking about writing my goals for the next year and reading them daily. Maybe lifting more? I don’t know where to begin or where that spark went

I almost need a source of pain to push me out of my complacency. Until then, I’m just dragging along

Fuck

set measurable goals. and make sure they are doable. small steps are the only way to build momentum.

but make sure they are measurable and have clear criteria for success. dont just say watch less netflix/porn or spend less money. thats too vauge. maybe set a window where you are allowed to indulge. then once you can do that, shrink the window and get used to that. then repeat. dont fall into the trap of thinking "its not a big enough improvement so i shouldnt bother" the key is building momentum.  as you see yourself working toward your goals you will bevome happy and you will usr the mental frame work associated with overcoming challenges.

find productive things to do instead of hedonistic things. start gardening, work on furthering your career, get exercise, work on maintaining your relationships or building new ones.

if you need motivation to start making steps then try picturing what life could be like if you got all your bad habits under control and what life could be like if you let all your bad habits consume you.

Discipline. Start making a routine for yourself that will make you want to continue building momentum through out the day. Writing down goals like you said is very effective because it gives you some sort of way of measuring/ and reminding you to keep pushing. More simply, I think its a way of holding yourself responsible.

Its a battle between you and your brain. My brain is always screaming for me to continue to stay tired, take a nap, blow off my assignments. Don't exercise today, we deserve a day off. Or telling me its okay to drink soda or a milkshake. All those actions above, if I succumb to any of those, when my head hits the pillow I feel like shit because I know I didn't uphold and stay true to my goals.

Honestly man, Idk how you feel about Jordan Peterson, but some good snip-its that he says are "Quit doing things that make you feel weak, treat yourself like someone you respect, and be honest with what you say to yourself and others."  I think that's a pretty good start if you can take that to heart. Most likely some doors will open in your mind and you will find ways to climb higher as you feel better about what you are accomplishing on a small scale/ day to day basis.

I believe removing unhealthy habits are just as effective and maybe necessary to start actually getting in touch with how you are going to start building yourself up and moving forward.

I actually read Peterson’s book and it helped a lot. He is a solid dude

Imma write long and short term goals tonight and I am thinking of setting a time to read them daily

How often do you guys read your goals? Obviously you have written them out but sadly I feel like I need to view them regularly

I am prolly gonna start with 0 kratom, 1-2 cups of coffee daily, and only drinking once a week
I got back into meditation 3 days ago and imma start taking milk thistle daily

I think the important thing is to not just set goals, but truly understand what your goals are. One person might say they want to get in shape, but deep down they don't really give a shit and getting in shape is just a thing you see people do when they have self esteem issues. Another person might want to get better at an instrument, but what they really want is the attention. Or maybe they get the attention and all they wanted was to be able to express themselves in private.

Motivation is tough to come by. It really comes down to be super passionate about something.

Take Saratonin's love of Bassnectar. Its unwavering!

Its really finding your fire. I find that doing drugs like weed does make me more complacent like "im gunna chiiiiilll today".

Having a complex goal with intermediate steps inbetween critical. Gotta have direction. Gotta have a "vision".

I empathise with your situation so damn entirely it's not even funny. Looking back at me in my late teens/early twenties I was a fucking monster when it came to self discipline and motivation compared to what I am now.

Unfortunately, as life goes on, the pressure increases, the distractions become greater, and the pains and suffering visited upon the self only serve to increase in intensity and duration, IMO.

One might argue that this is a product of the unnatural way in which so many of us live, but it's pretty much a moot point - it is what it is - and we must cope, somehow.

The only resolution I have found is to keep on powering upstream with all the might one can muster - even if, on some days - it's really not much at all.

Be kind, love, and persevere.

What else?

Started thistle. No more kratom for now. Caffeine is cut back. I am forcing myself into a normal sleep schedule. I’m actually on vacation at the moment but I want this to happen so let’s start. Milk thistle is making my shits really pleasant

Imma get serious about meditation today. I have a hypnotherapy track geared towards motivation. A lot of people think hypnosis is horseshit but it works like a damn charm

I have to flesh it out but it’s easy for me to take home 200-500k per year as my next job. I need references and some Certs and a lot of hard work. But it’s doable for sure

Let’s make this happen. Meditation is damn good tool for this I find but let’s see what happens

Jokeshopsbeard; does mdma damage take away your motivation? 50 polls over the course of a year turned my buddy into a dull lethergiv mess. You did some absurd amounts. Not hating, just saying that could be part of it

No, living a wild life and ageing does, like I said above. I've got years on you and freezy got years on me. We've also lived wild by degrees. Check the correlation.
