My new kids!

I just wanted to announce to the community in celebration of the addition of two newly beloved children into my growing family of pets. Below are Dutchess (Left), and Madhyamika (Mika for short) (Right). Perhaps we can discuss the disproportionately high intelligence of cockatiels, how they became that way, and what it means relative to the grand scheme of life?

Aww, pretty birdies
I don't know a whole lot about them, but arn't most species of birds considered fairly intellegent?
I love watching birds just..do what they do. I swear it seems like they carry out conversations sometimes.

Those are some beautiful birds ! Regarding you're question, i don't know .... but i know they are extremely intelligent animals and some can even communicate with us. I know one living in some apartment at the end of the street, that bird loves "talking" to children, apparently the kids find it amusing

I have a moron cockatiel on my shoulder right now. I've had others that were smarter. That said, a Lorikeet is smarter than any cockatiel. I've heard that ravens and african grey parrots are also much smarter. Cockatiels smell damn good, though.

Pretty birds, Ped. I was prompted to tell a story about what happened to a bird I owned when I was younger, but it's an evil, foul story, and I don't want to mar your introduction of your pretty pet.
Ah, hell, might as well...I'm bored.
When I was about 13, I had a parakeet. I loved that bird. I taught it to say a few words, like "pretty boy". Yes, unusual for a parakeet to talk.
I used to get up in the morning and open the bird's cage, and then get back in bed. He would fly from his cage to my chest and back to his cage, over and over.
One morning, Puff, the family cat and local community bird catcher, came upstairs to see what was going on, and someone had opened the door to my room.
I woke up to find Puff sitting on my chest with "Sirochi" in Puff's mouth. How depressing is that. F'ing cat.

Actually, it isn't all that unusual; it just takes a bit more time and repetition to teach them. And if they have a mate it is even harder. Peace.

I'm adding this to my wish-list for the future.
When I'm rich enough, I'm going to have a "indoor greenhouse" filled with wildlife, birds included ^_^!
Beautiful birds!

I used to have a parakeet named "Boyd" (Heh) who loved to look at himself in the mirror in the bathroom. Every time someone went to the bathroom while he was "free" in the room, he would try to fly into the bathroom before they shut the door...
Needless to say, he caught the door once or twice... first time was on his wing, and he was okay, second time was on his head.
