Capacitors are mostly quite affordable compared to vintage gear. The risk is minimal as well... just use a plastic handled screwdriver and set the tip across the two terminals of the cap. If there is a charge it will spark while it discharges. Generally only necessary with electrolytic capacitors.
As long as you have some soldering chops, it's probably worth doing.

oh for sure. unfortunately amp techs are hard to come by in my town. i know two of em and they're both knowledgeable but also insanely busy all the time. it's a miracle i got my one friend to take a look at it. id have a go at it myself but as inexperienced as i am with electronics etc i'm almost certain I'd fuck it up further. i can barely read a schematic. but maybe i will anyway.

If you don't feel comfortable with that sort of work, then probably it is best left to someone else. The right specs need to be followed for a replacement part (a size/construction which will fit plus equivalent part or "better"). Soldering can be difficult, even for me after a couple decades of doing it.
I for sure know the feeling of fucking up a good piece of gear!

it's a warehouse green beret. apparently a near identical copy of a celestion greenback, but significantly cheaper. sounds great with my vox head. real classic british sound.
& thanks man! i know it's not perfect but i like how it turned out and i'm proud of it.

Sounds like a cool amp/cab combo! Nice tone I'm sure.
Trust me, I know how hard the actual construction and presentation of things can be. Often, the actual wiring and planning is the easy part, and the finalizing can be frustrating. Turned out great from what I see!

thanks man! yeah the whole time i was worried about the wiring, having never soldered anything before, and that turns out to be the easiest part
my next project is helping my brother build a wooden case for his eurorack/mod synth. that's gonna be a fun one

Handmade modular cases are cool, and in the right market can fetch a good price as well.
I mostly repurpose things for my synth cases, but would love to improve my woodworking skills down the line.

Sweet looking bass! I bet it sounds good with the ampeg.
Hopefully I'll be taking pics of my new studio space in the next week or so. It's been a lot of work bringing everything upstairs, but it will be double the space plus a little closet for microphone isolation.

that ampeg fuckin cranks. i got it for 100 bones and i doubt i'll ever need a bigger bass amp. i play on 1 in my room and it's still pretty loud, can't imagine i'd ever need to go higher than 5 or 6 for a small show. but i've never played bass in a live set so who knows.

That is indeed a sweet bass! P&J's are a lot of fun.
Since this thread is bumped check out my new mixer:

It's the Soundcraft MTK 12, got it for a decent price used. Used my old small mixer for years but felt it was finally time to upgrade. It is an all analog mixer with a digital USB output for multitrack recording.
Pretty great "budget" mixer overall, nothing crazy but it has some nice features. Haven't managed to get the USB connection to work yet though haven't given up but the driver is being annoying...
It has 12 tracks 2 of which are stereo + stereo line/aux inputs, and group + master outputs with separate sliders. Using the master outs for 2 speakers and the group outs to record on my PC which works solidly.
Also has 3 aux inputs which can be used to route external effects through any of the channels, still need to figure the routing out but it seems very useful. On top of all the extra features the actual preamps and EQ are much nicer then my old mixer.
Pretty stoked overall, been trying to start working on more recordings and this will help especially if the damn USB works Had some friends over to jam the other day and it sounded amazing, one was playing bass through an amp and me and the other played guitar/keys into the mixer. Should have recorded some of it.

Indeed.
It has helped solve some issues with my recording set up, like avoiding feedback loops from having my PC send/return recording eachother I can route the return to only go to my speakers and not the PC which is really handy.
The sliders are also a lot more fun to use then the volume knobs on my old mixer, not the sturdiest feeling sliders but they work great. Also switched my speakers from TRS cables to XLR since this mixer has XLR master outputs and they work better then the TRS.
