**Official Nordic/Baltic P. semilanceata season 2018** * 5
    #25425491 - 08/31/18 06:20 AM (5 years, 7 months ago)

So, even though there's been a few finds through August, it's finally now starting to pop seriously in my area
around Bergen on the western coast of Norway. So I'll welcome all members from Finland, Sweden, Norway,
Estonia, Latvia,  Lithuania and Denmark to post their finds here. Note that this is not an identification thread, it
is solely for confirmed finds of Psilocybe semilanceata.

Here are some pictures from this morning, clocked in at about 300 in total in about an hours worth of picking.

The majority of todays find was actually growing on a forest path, or rather a tractor track.

Lots of dense clusters hiding in the tufts, and some pretty sizeable ones too.

Nice haul! Haven't gone hunting yet, but likely next week. The weather is starting to get there and there's been some nice findings reported on the finnish forums. I also love hunting on forest paths nowdays way more than on bigger fields.

Offtopic, nice signature Anglerfish. I red somewhere that random Cortinarius species were still sold in the 1960s on european market squares. I guess it had to come to an end, when enough people bought a "can of Cortinarius rubellus".

Holy fucking shit! Now this is a first time for me, growing in my front yard.

Two small specimens observed, left the other one to mature. Had an easily separable pellicle.

Those are some really nice looking specimens, ST1R!

Wow, nice! Do you live in a city or the countryside?

The countryside, eastern Finland. Substrate was very mossy "lawn", like noone has really taken care of it for years.

The beefiest cyans and azures I find a few weeks into the season are always in vehicle paths, game trails, or footpaths. It seems they like the activity, or spores travel on things that pass through or both. They grow amazingly faster than undisturbed areas.

Nice photos guys!

I haven't been out looking for liberty caps here yet. The edibles/other mushrooms just started to appear a couple of days ago. I think the drought this year will lead to a delayed season in my part of Scandinavia (southwest Sweden), but last week I heard that a few people has found them in the northern parts of the country. Maybe it's time to go out and have a look...

Have any of you tried to transplant pelliculosa or anything else in these habitats?

The same specimen, ~24 hours between the photos.

Looking healthy. One potential pin observed near these finds but it's too early to tell what'll become of it.

Hey, that's really cool, seeing the development.

Would love to see a video time lapse of wild liberty caps.

Thanks, and nice to see you around KK! Surely waiting for your contributions to this thread.

I've been spending the better time of the last few weeks picking porcini, it is a pretty good season for them
here due to the warm summer. Chanterelles are however sparse so far, just pins at this moment where they
usually start blooming in mid July.

I haven't done much experiments like that. I don't think P. pelliculosa occurs in Europe. Even though there
is a reported find from Finland, I suspect it might have been something else like P. medullosa/silvatica.

I think I know of the find you're speaking of. I remember most of the consensus was medullosa but a decent chunk sold on silvatica. I probably saw it referenced here.

If the habitats are right and I can forage some this year, I'm willing to get spores out to cultivars. Just message me in a few weeks. Pelliculosa and semilanceata overlap a wee bit in some parts of the grassy mountains 400km north of me.

Yea been thinking the same and would probably try it if I had a real camera. I bet the hygrophanous cap of Psilocybe semilanceata would look awesome in timelapse. Unfortunately I'm on my crappy backup phone right now so sorry about that, not too many settings to fiddle around. Can't get it to capture the real colors no matter what. White balance settings are auto, crap, crappier, crappiest and they're all equally horrible. The cap of the mushroom is not that "red" in real life. But really nice to follow its life, I can literally see it from my window. Just hoping for some colder wet nights and hoping the specimen won't get rolled by my cats or some other animal.

About that Psilocybe pelliculosa report from Finland, I don't know too much about it. Might have been something different. Then again, I doubt many people are hunting here in the described habitats of P. pelliculosa. Most hunt P. semilanceata as they're more than plenty usually and people are told to avoid coniferous forests/clear cuttings to find magic in here. Almost 80% of Finland is forested, so I'd assume there are a lot of possible and suitable habitats to explore.
