cables for tv card to video
    #2542264 - 04/09/04 04:46 AM (13 years, 2 months ago)

Just got a capture card from a a friend and on reading the
instruction it tells, most VCRs have a video out and an audio
out cable, my sanyo vhr has an aerial in and out and an audio
red and white, it goes on to say connect the video out on vcr to the
composite video in on the card and the audio from the audio output
on the vcr to the audio line in on the card.
I'm just a little confused, the video in on the cards yellow and looks
about the same size as an audio connection, do i need a special cable
with this type of plug on one end so it fits on the vcr.

do i need a sort of 2 to 1 audio cable, 2 into the audio
on the vcr and 1 into the card

If you're trying to connect the VCR to the capture in, you need to buy a converter or you could just hook the coaxial out on the VCR to the coaxial in on the capture card and just flip to channel 3/4 to use VCR. Your VCR and capture card should both have a coax you can use... the other RCA ports are for a device such as a video camera or other AV device.

You need a Y-adapter/converger converger for your audio, exactly as you thought.

It sounds like you need a frequency modulator to convert your coaxial video out on your VCR to the RCA video in on your card. Make sure you get one that converts coaxial to RCA video, most converters work the other way around. I couldn't find a cheap one online. Perhaps someone else can provide a link to the item you need.

Check this pic out.

You would plug your r/l audio out and coax video from your VCR into the modulator. Install the audio Y out of the audio out on the converter in-line with an RCA cable going into your card. You would need an additional RCA cable to run the video from the converter to the video in on your card.

Essentially the converter out channels should look like the VCR/Camera posrts shown in the diagram.

Your audio can bypass the mudulator, you would use fewer cables that way.

Good luck. I hope this makes sense.

One input allows for 2 channels (L+R RCA) to be combined into one stereo channel. Thats probably why the audio input is one jack, though I'm not too sure where you'd find an adapter.

If you had a pic of the capture cards connections, I could probably tell you exactly what you need, but I'm a little confused whether you need to hook the audio up, or the video up.
