Types of Psilocybin mushrooms
    #2540876 - 04/08/04 09:41 PM (17 years, 7 months ago)

I have been wandering around looking at spores and syringes....and noticed theres a bunch of different kinds of Psilocybin mushrooms.....being new to this I dont really know what the difference is between the different kinds.....I looked but didnt see a link anywhere that would take me to find what I was looking for.....

Do anyone of you prefer a certain type to grow and/or consume? and why? or if someone can point me to a link that would tell me there differences, that would be treats, thanx in advance  :smirk:

heres 2 types you should search for...

1. Any strain of cubensis...
2. Any strain of cyanscens

those are the two most popular and easy growing types...
cubensis has like 50 different types to choose from...
and definately anything cyanscens is sure to be a potent one...

if your a newb get some cubensis...
i dont have any links for you cause your question was less than needy.

Are you talking about different "types" of the psilocybe cubensis species (like Creeper, Cambodian, Argentine, whatever) or different types as in different species: example - psilocybe cubensis vs. psilocybe mexicana ? Maybe you should start at the FAQ.

The site I am looking at now has....
Aussie, B+, Equadorian, PES Hawaiian, etc...
I have been reading as much as I can in a given period of time.....

There is no big differences between cubensis strains.  Most of em are pretty easy to cultivate while some others are a bit harder (i.e.: thai strains  like Koh Samui, Lipa yai, etc..)

Some will have faster mycellium growth (i.e. Golden Teacher, Puerto Rican) and some will be slower (B+).

So in brief,  pick one and try!

.fs.

There is a big difference between strains and species. Al the spores that have cute names, are just different strains. You want P. Cubensis...there all the same by any practical defination...

Out of that list I would go with the Equadorian. There are differences between each strain. Start with one, then move on to the next until you find what you like.

Examples of differences:
Appearance of fruitbodies
Tolerances to specific environmnetal parameters that are not optimal.
Dried appearances( quantity of fruits per dry sample on a given substrate)

Ignore those that say all cubensis are the same, other then belonging to the same species they are not the same.

I have never met a black guy who want's to be called white. Might wanna get treated like he is white, but definetly not called white.

Ok, well for someone just starting out would you still recommend Equadorian? How about out of the whole list of P. Cubensis, what are some that would be good for starting out....?

my recomendation is one of these:
B+, Eq,cambodian,or golden teacher.they all colonize fast, are somewhat resistant to contams, are somewhat forgiving, and will produce nice fruits.

yeah those are some good starter strains snatchcakes, they are all "easy" to grow though since they are all from the same genus...

they are all very similar, but alot of people seem to have trouble with the Thai strains like Fish in my Head said,so you might wanna wait on those, otherwise here is a link to a thread, read through it there are strain descriptions of most:

good luck!!

Those strain descriptions are stupid.
They say basically the same thing for every strain.
All strains require the same growth conditions and have the same potential to fruit.
Just like a black man and a white man, may look different, but live off the same diet, have the same lifecycle, and have the same stuff on the inside....

All Cubensis are created equal....imo....

You will see noobs say "x" strain sucks or "y" strain is the best
But thats usually the noob attributing his good/bad growing skills to the strains potential...
If you get a bad fruiting, it your fault and not the strains. Same goes with a good fruiting...

Ive grown at least a dozen strains, with no noticible difference in quality or quanity...sure some may look very slightly differnt....but thats all...

Your points arent really valid - and dont stand up to scientific analysis. Stivje and Demiejer found a uniform difference in the psilocin content of two seperate cubensis spore races grown under the same conditions.
You say that you have grown atleast a dozen spore races and they are all 'basically the same' - i doubt this statement. Everyone I knoww how has been around here for a reasonable amount of time and really had the expereince of gropwing most of the cubies available will tell you that there are quite considerable differences in the appearance, mycelial traits, fruiting shape and potency of varing cubensis strains - if you compare ten of the best isolates of B+ to an average isolate of the argentinean or cambo cubensis I am sure that you will find that 3 grams of B+ and 3 grams of cambos dont compare - i could list a dozen very experienced cultivators who would agree with that statement.
Sure we are not talking about the kind of differences that are noticed between Psilocybe species, but they are still apparent.
Generally the spore match and its genetics have as much if not more to do with the fruiting capacity and its performance than other variables. If you fruit ten different isolates of the same strain in identical conditions, you will see that each will perform differently - some will be crap, others will be high yielders. These are different phenotype expressions.
But even with this, all cubensis are not created equal - some have crap and redudant genetics/phenotypes - others are more likely to always perform.
