Considering to start building my own vape coils
    #25405568 - 08/22/18 03:21 PM (5 years, 7 months ago)

Been watching some videos and I really think it's time I start building my own coils. Some of them look pretty simple while others involve complex wraps of various wires.

I use premade coils and they last about 2 weeks max before changing. I saw on one video that you can keep using the same coil for longer and just change the cotton when hits start tasting bad.

Also, people say it's much cheaper to build them yourself and I can see why. I've been vaping for a while and I can't imagine how much I've spent on coils.

So, talk me into going out and buying another setup. I'm watching about RDA mods.

Dont you wash your coils?

When i vaped rda's i only changed my coils to try different ones. I changed cotton often.

Even my smok tanks i would wash my coil after 60ml of juice and they would last a long time before needing replaced.

Many juices have tons of sugars in them, they caramelize on the coils and cotton.

I reccomend changing your cotton more often and clean your coils on rda.

Do all the clapton, double dragon tiger tit coils make a difference? Yes and no. Imo the crazy coils are for bragging rights etc. "Look what i made" kinda shit.

My favorite are these ones that look like fuzzy cattapillers , nothing too crazy. YMMV.

Rda are great for home if you dont mind dripping juice every 3 hits.

They can pop and crackle boiling juice into your mouth,,that shit sucks.

I used smok sub ohm tanks and they honestly hit smoother and harder and hold enough juice to last most of the day.

You gotta be very careful that you aren’t using alloys that would react with anything or release potentially toxic fumes.

You purchase special wire to make coils, not some random metal wire you find at homedepot

It's not worth it imo. I'm not a cloudchaser, a decent smok tank works for me. 2 weeks is a reasonable time on a coil. I remember when they needed to be changed every few days. Lol.

Do it.  Be smart though, learn your ohms laws etc.  Be safe, try to find a vape shop that has weekend build classes or whatever day.  18650 blow like m80’s if you short them out bad enough.  There’s some really good videos on youtube where people blow them on purpose, check them out.  Good examples of what to avoid gripping tight in your hand and putting to your face in your mouth hole..

No, I don't wash my coils. I find they don't taste the same as a fresh one.

After watching some more videos, I see theres RDA, RTA and RDTA. I like the I idea of having a tank to wick from and avoid having to drip every few hits.

I've been watching people make crazy builds and it doesn't look all that hard with the proper tools and some patients.

I wouldn't mind changing cotton every so often, that seems like it would be much cheaper that changing the whole coil out. I think once I find a build that will last, I wouldn't change it for a while unless I needed to. And similar to mush cult, once I've bought all the required tools and materials, coils would be super cheap to make for myself.

I will probably learn a little from the people at the vape shop as far as resistances and ohms and whatnot go.

I'm on my last packaged coil now, when it starts to taste burnt out, I think I will go shopping for another mod. I've had this one for well over a year, it works fine but it's pretty beat up. It could be sooner, as I just noticed I'm low on juice.

Look up the coilmaster build kit.. it will save hella time and effort while improving your builds to perfection.

My go to is usually 21ga kanthal, 7-8 wraps at 3.5mm and my ohms register at 0.18.  Pretty basic but two of them running together and it works real well.

Probably not a bad idea to get a kit like that. It should last a while and have all the appropriate tools.

I build my own coils.  Super easy if you understand basics.

Don't over do the cotton!!!  Will taste burnt

I have a 2 coil vape.  Vaporesso tarot pro box with a vaporesso tank.  A build lasts months!

Also make my own 24mg juice!

Half the price of smoking bulk tobacco.  Much cleaner.

Making coils seems kind of overkill IMO, they are pretty cheap and you shouldn't need to change them out too often.

Making juice seems more cost effective, as well as important to make sure you are only vaping quality ingredients.

Been vaping on and off for awhile and have only used a few coils, and just to try out different ones. Haven't had a single coil break yet. Bought a pack of different kinds of coils off ebay.

Still I would like to learn eventually. It would be nice to have some wire stashed just in case you ever need more coils and can't buy any. Also would be nice to use quality wire so you know you aren't using anything sketchy.

My handmade coils destroy premade and I can get 30ft of wire and a sack of bacon cotton for $13 that will last me until, april.

@ morel, I picked up the vaporesso switcher and use a limitless pro rdta.  Really pleased with vaporesso and the limitless.
