Thanks Cass_Cm. To me Bolete ID seems quite difficult as allot of them seem near identical. I appreciate the help. I'm going on a mushroom walk next week with some Mycologists which I hope will expand my knowledge.

You’re welcome. And I agree. It’s well known to the mushroom lovers that the Boletaceae family is a challenge

This may be a species of suillus with the glandular dots on the stipe. Are there any conifers such as pine nearby, including saplings?
Edit: I suck at boletes, but I do know that trees are very important when identifying them to species.

Sullius typically have more brownish prints. But the punctuate ornamentation on the stipe is indeed indicative like you mentioned.

One day I will figure out bolete and allies, gilled mushrooms are a challenge all to themselves, so I haven't really tried much with anything else.

I know what you mean. MO helped a lot with boletes and also the Boletes of Eastern North America book is super useful.

I've seen a bewildering array of Boletes this year. In the absence of the referenced book I've found the following to be somewhat helpful http://www.fungikingdom.net/myco-facts-by-dianna-smith/the-boletaceae-family-the.htm
