First Golden Teacher Grow
    #25404212 - 08/21/18 11:03 PM (6 years, 4 months ago)

First off I should start with my method for inoculation, I purchased some pre sterilized Rye grain bags and inoculated the bags with Golden Teacher spore syringes. On June 20th 10 bags were injected with 5ml of Golden Teacher spores each. Fast forward a month later and the rye bags look blotchy with mycelium but looking healthy as far as I know this was July 20th (30 days after). Fast forward another month and they seem to have been stalled my rye bags all look 25% colonized but I don't think thats normal for 60 days after inoculation, is everything ok? is it supposed to normally take this long?
Additionally my room temperature was fluctuating between 83-90f and the bags weren't propped up or unraveled for micron filter to allow for GE properly. On August 20 I lowered room temp to stay between 75-83f and propped up bags to allow for GE. I have included a couple picture of one of the bags 60 days in, they pretty much all look the exact same.

Update: I went to go break up the cakes and some of the bags were covered with white dust what is this stuff??

Also my bags seem almost slightly grey in appearance but it could just be the lighting in the room I'm worried about cobweb mold on my cakes, my temperature is at 82f should I put some fans blowing air out of the closet to cool the room temp to 75?
I forgot to mention I plan to spawn the bags to monotubs with a mix of coir and vermiculite once they are fully colonized.

How are you getting GE? Do those bags have a filter?

I'd massage the mycelium, break it up and mix the bag to speed up colonization.

The bags do have filter patches on them. To get GE I just tried to unravel the bags a little bit to get the oxygen flowing through the filter to the bags. After I inoculated I was too scared too touch them until I realized they needed help.

There's a reason why most of the pro's on this board recommend first-timers stay away from pre-made bags and MS innoculant. There is just too much shenaniganery going on with those bags.

If you are able to, I highly suggest checking out Bod's "easy as fuck" guides and get the basic supplies. Bod's Simple Guides

Pressure cooker, jars, still air box. If space is a premium, I would do a bottle tek similar to those done by MudaFuka. MudaFuka Bottle Tek

Shit, forgot to post advice.

85 degrees is too hot for most colonization. They like to be under 80, around 70 - 75 Fahrenheit.

Break up the clumps and see if that gets it to 100%. Then spawn directly to a 650g brick in an unmodified Sterilite air-tight 54qt tub. They are idiot proof. Use this guide.

Bod's unmodified tub tek

Keep us posted.

The bags are still going good and contam free but still taking forever! About half of the bags are stuck at 75% colonized and the other 5 around 90%. I'm wondering about how I am going to spawn the bags i plan to use tubs with verm/coir, should I wait untill all bags are done and Spawn them at the same time or just Spawn them when each one becomes 100% colonized?

Always wait until the spawn is done. It couldn't hurt to keep your bags in the light. It assists at all stages of growth.

All of my spawn bags are finally fully colonized so I broke up 6 quarts of spawn into each monotub(5 total) at a 2/1 substrate to spawn ratio. I used 50%coir/50% vermiculite and followed Bod's unmodified tub tek with the link provided by Shmurf. It's been roughly 4 months and 10 days since I injected with spore syringes, a pretty long colonization time if you ask me but I'm still learning. I hope colonization of the tubs will be fast. I will keep you updated, thank you all for your patience.

Maybe moisture content was off,  may e old bags?  Did you buy from reputable  shop? Are they getting light.

I bought from a well known distributer just not a sponser of shroomery. The bags were shipped express right after thy were prepard and used right away but if I had to place money on it I would bet that you are right it probably had something to do with the moisture content being off probably a little too dry and also no light during colonization because I couldn't regulate tempreature at the time with the light setup I had

It has been 17 days since I transferred to monotubs, the current set up for my monotubs is 2X1000w full spectrum lights about 4ft above the 5 monotubs on a twelve hour timer.

The lids of the tubs are a solid yellow and flipped upsidown so there is a gap I am not sure what I can do besides be patient but my tubs seem to colonizing very slowly. Here are some pics.

These are toast.
Learn agar and stop shooting spores into bags.
The extra moisture and off color is a bad sign.

I 100% agree with what you have to say it would improve colonization time and any problems with contams and is just more logical. But I refuse to believe everything is trash, I have too much put in to these 5 tubs to not at least try and get some fruits even one shit flush is towards the right direction. Thanks for your input.

You can either waste your time and let these keep sitting there rotting. Or you can put your energy into doing things properly my man. Those are never gonna fruit. How long have they been in fruiting conditions? Too long to ever give fruits. That thing is a hot mess. Sorry but we all suffer failures. With the amount of resources at your finger tips I would ask. Why are you not following a tek from a TC. They work!! Here is a link

Im sorry, but that tub is completely gone. It will never produce fruit and its just leaching all sorts of mold spores into your work space. Yoga gotta do things right to make this work. Pre-made spawn bags are a total gamble. Not wise to work with them at all let alone shoot them up with a multi-spore syringe. Get your own equipment and follow a real Tek to the T. Trust me, we are telling you this because we all had to learn the same lesson.

people love to trash talk any pre made anything from websites but in my opinion they work out a lot more often than trying yourself from scratch. plus they're cheap as shit and save you boat loads of time and effort. not everyone can quit their jobs and dedicate themselves to being a full time mycologist.

You really have no clue what you are talking about. It literally only takes a few hours to set up a grow and a couple of minutes a day to maintain. If you have time to brush your teeth you have enough time to do cultivation the right way.

False. Pre made anything from websites have a MUCH higher chance of failure than doing it yourself. Premade = gamble. Doing it yourself from scratch allows you to reduce the gamble aspect of the hobby by magnitudes.
Yes, doing it from scratch is more time-consuming than premade. But I'm doing it in my spare time while working a full-time job, a 2nd part-time job, and juggling a girlfriend and taking care of her roommate's newborn, and I'm about 2 weeks from harvest. If you do it on your own the right way, it's pretty much set and forget.
There is a REASON people around here trash talk kits and pre-made. Learn from it and try again.
