Killed my cakes?
    #25399981 - 08/20/18 05:33 AM (6 years, 4 months ago)

Hi,

This is my 2nd grow pf tek. Harvested my cakes, dunked the cakes under water for circa 30h. It's been 17 days and no new pins have emerged. I have read if more than 48h under water the cakes, chances are to kill it. Is that a possibility?

I doubt its from the dunk, but it is bad to waterlog substrates. You'll know they're waterlogged if they're really wet and heavy

What kind of fruiting chamber are you using, describe it + pics.

You said you already harvest the first flush from these?

Hi Mushpunx and thank you for your input!

First flush yes. One time harvested.

It's a pretty normal growing chamber as in a big plastic box, drilled holes on all sides except the bottom, perlite on the bottom.

I mist the growing chamber with some amount of water. I spray the water on the cakes and all around the growing chamber and perlite.

The SGFC needs holes on the bottom and it needs to be raised up off the ground at the corners.
You also need another 3" or so of Perlite. If its not raised up with bottom holes it won't work as it was intended.

Pick up the cakes, if they're heavy back off misting. If they're super light and dry set them on saucers with water over night.

The FC should have 1/4" holes in a 2x2" grid on *All Six* sides, raised up off the ground surface (on bricks or soup cans at the corners, 4-6" high is enough IME). 5" of dampened perlite.

Hey,

"The SGFC needs holes on the bottom and it needs to be raised up off the ground at the corners. "
What do you mean raised up off the ground at the corners?

Ok, I'll drill holes on the bottom too and will add more perlite.

The cakes are quite light and dry. So Your suggesting to leave them under water for 12h or so?

No, set them each on a saucer with a water on it over night. You know what a saucer is right?

Oh, ok, so the cakes will then suck the water off from the saucers like that?

Also, could you elaborate with this on:
"The SGFC needs holes on the bottom and it needs to be raised up off the ground at the corners. "
What do you mean raised up off the ground at the corners?

Thank you mushpunx!

You need to follow the Tek's like they are described so you don't need to ask questions like "what do you mean raised up off the ground" it clearly says in the numerous of SGFC Tek's that it should be raised off the ground. Follow the Tek's to the T and good luck with your grows! :goodluck:

It also says in just about every single tek not to do anything near floor level because that's where all the contaminants in your house settle... floor level.

Hi guys,

I've got some light green spot marks on my perlite in my chamber at some areas. Anyone knows why's that?

Thank you for the help!

Also, what do you guys think is it good to mist the cakes directly?

Genetics.  Spores are a gamble. You never know what genetics you're going to get out of them.  That's why a lot of people grow their cultures out on agar dishes and work towards isolates (isolated genetics).
