Thanks for that link nube424, and thanks to everyone else who shares information and techniques here. I’m a beginner and decided that the recommendation to start with agar was the best option. I prepared agar in mini rounds and started to experiment. I had harvested quite a few morels years ago and unintentionally collected spore prints on cardboard after I laid them out to begin drying. I stacked the cardboard and it’s been stored on a top shelf in a storage building for at least 5 years. I started the spores and wasn’t sure if I’d get anything but here’s a couple pics of what I have after a few transfers. I debated quite a while if I was only cultivating cobweb mold , lol but I think I’ve been successful.

As I said, I’m new here and get lost in this massive message board quite often. I didn’t even realize until I looked again after posting that I was in the advanced mycology forum. Sorry for junking up thread with bad pics of Pastyplates. :frown: I can delete or mods can move or delete if need be. Just mainly wanted to that you ppl for all the pics and info.

I'm not sure what morel mycelium looks like, so I can't say. If I had that I would chuck it out fearing it was mold. But different myceliums look different. U could try posting in the hunting and I.d. Forum for a quicker answer. Those guys will know what morel mycelium looks like. These guys do to but this thread moves slow.

So quick question. First time using agar / pastyplates with syringe GT. I had forgotten to polyfill/micropore. I used black food coloring. What do you guys think? Figuring its a bit more aerial since it's been with verrry limited air. (won't be using black again, thought it would help make it easier to see through the glad plastic but i'm switching to actual plates once they arrive. Thanks in advance!

Transfer to new plates, I'd say. I don't see undeniable bacteria but airial mycelium usually means all is not well or simply that there are tonnes of genetics.

Your next plates should make agar more fun. If using colour, consider red as it makes green more visible.

If you want, throw some on grain while you're at it. Youll know soon if it's just too much genetics for a pretty plate .

Thanks for the response Spotter! Sounds good, I'll start with transferring to a second plate or two with an gas exchange lid. If one of those looks good I'll go straight to grain. I'm super pumped i just got my pc and rye in today, picked up quarts over the weekend.  :dancer:

The article linked at the top of this page, "Stro's Cleaning and Isolating On Agar", is an outstanding resource, top of the Shroomery for me.

As far as I know, morel mycelium looks exactly like cobweb mold. What helps is that for me, morels start to form sclerotia on agar shortly after colonization. Here's M. americana, six days after the previous photo:

This is a "black morel" from mushrooms.com. Does anyone know what species they sell?

This is one of the plates in my first batch ever. I was curious about what peoples opinions were of this growth in the upper right part of the dish. Is it fungal growth or is it contamination? It looks really dense and the growth is faster than the rest of the growth in the dish.

Top right from 12 to 4 looks like a mold. Take from the bottom left, 6-9.

Oh I've been lurking. Been thinking about giving mine a go lately. It would add to my work load but I can deal with 10 more plates. Look forward to seeing some mush from these good luck!

Some of the best looking Thai T2 plates, on different media including WeetBixAgar, BRF, and half strength MEA (which is gonna be my go-to for transfer plates from now on)

Some ropes on ropes (sorry for condensation, I poured these plates too hot)

Had alot of temperature fluctuations due to bad oven, but in turn they gave some interesting looking cultures
And I now realise I should stop deleting my mycopictures. I could look at threads like this all day! Thanks for the contribution guys
