Wonder what F.b.i. stands for and what they wanted with my computer?

Maybe it stands for Filler Bunny Incorporated?

For anyone who doesn't already have Peer Guardian, I would suggest you go HERE and get it. Youd be surprised how much "invisible" traffic your computer gets on a regular basis.

Stay safe everyone.

ps. dont forget to update peer guardians block list occasionally.

just install it, run it, update the block list by using the check/ update option in the help menu then minimize it and it will sit in your taskbar. you can open it back up at any time to view its activity log.

Peerguardian rules

However, Protowall offers even more protection by blocking UDP and other protocols that PG does not. Protowall also uses much, much, much less CPU than PG.

PW + Block List Manager = serious protection

check it out: http://bluetack.co.uk/pw.html

for detail installation guide, check out the protowall forums @ bluetack.co.uk (you need to register).

I use Tiny Firewall. It blocks inbound UDP access as well as Inbound IP and Inbound TCP access (a bunch more). Also Outbound TCP accesses, and monitors everything.

have you been attempting to visit the Dept of Justice website (or any other federal site)? If so, just go tools>options; check: allow connections to port 80. If this isnt the problem, well then the feds are after you. simple as that.

Holy shit!

They've visited me 7 times so far.

They've visited you 700.

Run to Canda IMMEDIATELY, and never come back!

It MAY be that you're visiting government websites, but it'll only come up 2 or 3 times then, not 700!

That's insane man

Nice   Thanks for the software hint.

Anyone have any good websites/resources  to go to for a dude to learn about good internet security and how IP addresses work and what UDP and TCP and so forth stand for?  I don't have any idea about expert level internet knowledge... just how to use Google and change my home page and stuff.  It'd be nice to expand my knowledge so I could be a wiz in anti-hacking and government internet survellience and stuff.  If I'm looking at websites like this it'd only be a good idea

Is peer guardian supposed to make certain website malfunction. I installed it and several places I regulaly go didn't work right. Like eBay, it no longer has an option to sign in. I found a way around that only to then not have the option to sign out. Other sites were simply incomplete.

I uninstalled the software, but I will reinstall it if there is a way to fix these problems.

How did you determine the number of visits you had by the government agencies. Can you scan your results or do you have to count them.... And how can I link my results to this board, because I had DEA at various locations, CIA, FBI, and other government agencies on me... After you view all these, can you actually use peer guardian to block these people? I couldn't tell from the other posts.

that doesnt make any sense.

how do you have zero blocked packets and not have access to ebay?

what lists are you using?

ebay is not blocked by any list, by the way.

I read and followed all instructions and it still says ProtoWall.sys is not loaded. Any idea why?

If i even see one FBI or Us department of justice thing come up i'm done, through, finished. Overreacting? Maybe. But honestly if they even take the time to look at me then i can take the time to make sure they no longer have a reason to look at me. I got gourmet shrooms, but honestly i'm scared they'll send cops to search my place when i'm NOT around (F*CK YOU PATRIOT ACT) and find my bong or some Smoke lying around. Not to mention a cut up tyvek envelope... maaaaaaan... wtf...

16 FBI blocks and one DEA block.

Strangely, I also got visits from police in : Australia, England, Japan, Finland, Germany, Belgium, France, etc.

Also a few from police training schools.  Well, at least I'm helping to provide someone with an education, eh?

so does peerguardian block dns queries? that could account for the massive hits from the goverment. I doubt they have guys trying to hack EVERYONE. Its not like its legal to hack someones computer.

I need to install this crap when i get home to evaluate.

you'll still need a soft & hard firewall, of course. protowall just a driver based IP blocker.

@shroomism: hard = router or old, networked comp running linux or freebsd as firewall :: soft = software firewall - i.e. outpost, zone alarm, sygate, etc.

PG kinda just fizzled away - the program itself sucked (protowall was proven to be 100x better) and Methlabs were not receiving enough donations to cover hosting.

I believe PG is in the works of becoming an opensource project and might even have a new site.

@nyy: the reason why you havent blocked any packets from DOJ or whatever governmental sites is because you are using peerguardian and the only list it can handle is the antip2p list. Level 2 (i.e. goverment, military, etc.) IP ranges have pretty much been divorced from the antip2p lists and set into their own list.

visit the bluetack.co.uk forums and go to the protowall technical help forum. there are several sticky posts at the top on how to get it installed. you'll need to register to view.

you will be helped out and if you troubleshoot/follow instructions and tips, you'll have it installed in no time. trust me - there are a multitude of variables with something as unique as your networking and OS setup,  therefore you'll need to work on this - there wont be a single solution for everybody.

visit the forums & read the stickies. if none of them address your situation, ask a question - many friendly people around those parts

::blm 101::

first, I recommend using 2.42pre-release.

1. in blm, goto options>general>uncheck autoupdate>uncheck everything but permit rules take priority over deny rules like so:

always keep this configuration - this is all you need for general use.

2. in options, goto exclusions>check enable exclusions>click the "..." button and find the exclusions.txt file in the bluetack program file (usually c:\programfiles\bluetack...). Do the same for inclusions.

3. under app locations, check "enable protowall integration" - click "..." and go to the antip2p.p2p file found in the protowall program files (usually c:\programfiles\dudez\protowall...). antip2p.p2p is the text file where you'll be exporting the list to.

4. under log locations, check "enable protowall log" click "..." and select pwconns.log found in the protowall program files. if the file is not there, create a text document and rename it "pwconns.log"

5. under export all, check protowall.

6. click apply and then ok.
click "check sources" - when they have been downloaded, go back to pptions.

7. now, go to sources and select the lists you wish to use.

here is a excellent description of each list: http://www.bluetack.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=727 - you'll need to register to view.

select the proper lists.
click apply and then ok.

"download blacklists" - takes between 2 mins and an hour depending on the list (if you use the proxy list it can take awhile) and your CPU power. Using most of the lists, it takes me about 15 mins.

8. when the downloading and merging has completed, click export>IP blockers>protowall

9. when it has completed exporting, close BLM and open protowall. click file>load IP table. select the antip2p.p2p file from earlier.

be sure to click start if you havent already.

now, just to clarify, be sure to disable auto-update in protowall.

Just to add to this--I tried to get the Protowall beta version and it shut down on me. This was my second attempt at loading it. You may really have to play around with your network connections options and just spend a few hours on it and learn a bit....I'm pretty computer illiterate (trying to learn) in this area, and that's what it took me.
Anywhooo, I had to download the older 1.42, I think, for it work for me. After that, just got BLM and exported to Protowall.
Say, Bio, my file that BLM exports to is titled "ipfilter.p2p". But, it covers loads of IPs in around 14,000 ranges. This is almost double Peerguardian's blocklist.
I'm *assuming* that this is okay? My question really stems from the fact that I can use BLM to export the blocklist to both Protowall and Peerguardian.
So...could you explain, briefly, what the benefit of using Protowall over Peerguardian is, if they're both getting their blocklist from BLM?
Thanks very much. Sorry, I'm a Noob in this area.

I prefer 1.42 myself - it seems quite stable. Havent had any trouble with its installation and useage whatsoever.

why is the BLM-to-PW file called ipfilter.p2p? You should export to the antip2p.p2p file in the protowall program files. I'm not sure that the name of the file matters considering it's just a text file, but I think its good practice to stay consistent and make sure you're not loading some other file.

14,000 seems a bit low. I am running 60,000. what lists are you using?

yeah, BLM can export to PeerGuardian, but why would want to run both protowall and peerguardian?

PW is all you need. uninstall PG - it has been rendered useless now that you have PW.

I haven't checked all the source lists on the BLM. That may be why it's low. I think I just have the "recommended" blocklists as my sources. I'll go back and check and see what's shaking with that.
However, whenever I use BLM to "check sources" or to check for updates, I mean, it might only add a few. So I'm current with at least the lists I've selected for use, I think. I'll try it out. Thanks.

hmm...there are several tips that are not mentioned in the PW Help page : http://www.bluetack.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=1706&st=0

Try this, it seems to be working great for some people:

Quote:

http://www.bluetack.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=4960&st=0&#entry32530

1. Unistall everything, go to program files/ and make sure the "dudez" folder does not exist.
2. OK, next, install protowall with the XP Driver... OK
3. Go to program files/dudez/ copy the folder "xp_driver"
4. Paste it to your desktop
5. Rename it the "xpdriver" instead of "xp_driver"
6. Uninstall Protowall
7. Now, Install protowall again, but this time, do not install the XP Driver
8. Go to program Files/dudez/ and paste the newly named folder into it.
9. Go to: http://www.bluetack.co.uk/pwhelp/
10. Click on "How to use Protowall"
11. Click on "Install the driver"
12. Follow those steps... click "Continue Anyway" untill it stops doing it (it did it 4 times for me)
13. Close everything on your computer...
14. Open Protowall, and holy sh*t, it works...

ahhh.. I FINALLY got protowall to work.. finally.. only took me about three weeks.. lol

the problem was, when I was installing the driver under network connections.. the first time I installed it, I installed both files.. (the .sys and the .inf) and it was never working.. I kept trying to reinstall and reinstall... well I finally got it to work by uninstalling them, and reinstalling just the ONE protowall.inf driver. worked like a charm.

so far I love protowall.. I already got rid of peerguardian=suk.. and I have the BLM for protowall with all the pertinent lists enabled.. I'm loving it so far..

question.. do I have to have the blocklist manager open for it to be working with protowall?

would anybody know anything about port 67? because I just had something blocked going out from 67, the title of that wasn't so encouraging.

no - blm just collects, merges, and exports the lists into the ipfilter.p2p text file. no need to keep it open once you've exported to your selected application.
