PG kinda just fizzled away - the program itself sucked (protowall was proven to be 100x better) and Methlabs were not receiving enough donations to cover hosting.
I believe PG is in the works of becoming an opensource project and might even have a new site.

That's the problem I always run into also, even though I followed the instructions explicitly on the site.

@nyy: the reason why you havent blocked any packets from DOJ or whatever governmental sites is because you are using peerguardian and the only list it can handle is the antip2p list. Level 2 (i.e. goverment, military, etc.) IP ranges have pretty much been divorced from the antip2p lists and set into their own list. visit the bluetack.co.uk forums and go to the protowall technical help forum. there are several sticky posts at the top on how to get it installed. you'll need to register to view. you will be helped out and if you troubleshoot/follow instructions and tips, you'll have it installed in no time. trust me - there are a multitude of variables with something as unique as your networking and OS setup, therefore you'll need to work on this - there wont be a single solution for everybody. visit the forums & read the stickies. if none of them address your situation, ask a question - many friendly people around those parts

I can probably walk you thru this old man. first, what exactly do you mean by not allowing you access?

I'm just having problems resolving using the blocklist manager and importing the list to Protowall. How the hell do I do that? Which list should I use?

::blm 101:: first, I recommend using 2.42pre-release. 1. in blm, goto options>general>uncheck autoupdate>uncheck everything but permit rules take priority over deny rules like so:
always keep this configuration - this is all you need for general use. 2. in options, goto exclusions>check enable exclusions>click the "..." button and find the exclusions.txt file in the bluetack program file (usually c:\programfiles\bluetack...). Do the same for inclusions. 3. under app locations, check "enable protowall integration" - click "..." and go to the antip2p.p2p file found in the protowall program files (usually c:\programfiles\dudez\protowall...). antip2p.p2p is the text file where you'll be exporting the list to. 4. under log locations, check "enable protowall log" click "..." and select pwconns.log found in the protowall program files. if the file is not there, create a text document and rename it "pwconns.log" 5. under export all, check protowall. 6. click apply and then ok. click "check sources" - when they have been downloaded, go back to pptions. 7. now, go to sources and select the lists you wish to use. here is a excellent description of each list: http://www.bluetack.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=727 - you'll need to register to view. select the proper lists. click apply and then ok. "download blacklists" - takes between 2 mins and an hour depending on the list (if you use the proxy list it can take awhile) and your CPU power. Using most of the lists, it takes me about 15 mins. 8. when the downloading and merging has completed, click export>IP blockers>protowall 9. when it has completed exporting, close BLM and open protowall. click file>load IP table. select the antip2p.p2p file from earlier. be sure to click start if you havent already. now, just to clarify, be sure to disable auto-update in protowall.

Just to add to this--I tried to get the Protowall beta version and it shut down on me. This was my second attempt at loading it. You may really have to play around with your network connections options and just spend a few hours on it and learn a bit....I'm pretty computer illiterate (trying to learn) in this area, and that's what it took me. Anywhooo, I had to download the older 1.42, I think, for it work for me. After that, just got BLM and exported to Protowall. Say, Bio, my file that BLM exports to is titled "ipfilter.p2p". But, it covers loads of IPs in around 14,000 ranges. This is almost double Peerguardian's blocklist. I'm *assuming* that this is okay? My question really stems from the fact that I can use BLM to export the blocklist to both Protowall and Peerguardian. So...could you explain, briefly, what the benefit of using Protowall over Peerguardian is, if they're both getting their blocklist from BLM? Thanks very much. Sorry, I'm a Noob in this area. GB

I prefer 1.42 myself - it seems quite stable. Havent had any trouble with its installation and useage whatsoever.
why is the BLM-to-PW file called ipfilter.p2p? You should export to the antip2p.p2p file in the protowall program files. I'm not sure that the name of the file matters considering it's just a text file, but I think its good practice to stay consistent and make sure you're not loading some other file.
14,000 seems a bit low. I am running 60,000. what lists are you using?
yeah, BLM can export to PeerGuardian, but why would want to run both protowall and peerguardian?

PW is all you need. uninstall PG - it has been rendered useless now that you have PW.

I haven't checked all the source lists on the BLM. That may be why it's low. I think I just have the "recommended" blocklists as my sources. I'll go back and check and see what's shaking with that. However, whenever I use BLM to "check sources" or to check for updates, I mean, it might only add a few. So I'm current with at least the lists I've selected for use, I think. I'll try it out. Thanks.

hmm...there are several tips that are not mentioned in the PW Help page : http://www.bluetack.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=1706&st=0 Try this, it seems to be working great for some people:
Quote:
http://www.bluetack.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=4960&st=0&#entry32530 1. Unistall everything, go to program files/ and make sure the "dudez" folder does not exist. 2. OK, next, install protowall with the XP Driver... OK 3. Go to program files/dudez/ copy the folder "xp_driver" 4. Paste it to your desktop 5. Rename it the "xpdriver" instead of "xp_driver" 6. Uninstall Protowall 7. Now, Install protowall again, but this time, do not install the XP Driver 8. Go to program Files/dudez/ and paste the newly named folder into it. 9. Go to: http://www.bluetack.co.uk/pwhelp/ 10. Click on "How to use Protowall" 11. Click on "Install the driver" 12. Follow those steps... click "Continue Anyway" untill it stops doing it (it did it 4 times for me) 13. Close everything on your computer... 14. Open Protowall, and holy sh*t, it works...
