Fifty Shades of Grey 7/10

Pretty good movie. Great acting, twisting plot, unpredicatable characters, varying situations.

But its not my kind of movie, hence the lower rating, S&M stuff just aint for me. I guess it was sexy thou  Maybe im just jealous i cant pull it off

I bet the book is great, so much going on with the main characters.

Just watched Mission Impossible Fallout in 3-D.  Was disappointed. No good villain like the late Hoffman.  You can have all these great special effects and it just bored me.

Maybe seeing the HBO doc on scientology left me feeling like shit emotionally what they do to people and how Tom represents them.  I just can't respect that.

2 and a half hours and you the outcomes are always the same in every one of the movies, you don't even need a spoiler alert.  In this one it comes down to one second and I won't spoil it, but I have to, this time the villain's nuke many major cities in the world and Tom isn't the hero to save the world.

Fuck off.

Ant Man and The Wasp 7.5/10

It was a pretty good movie but nothing special. Some of the jokes were really dumb. Crickets. But the fight action was awesome and the trippy "diving" is definitely the best part. Worth a watch, just dont except a ton.

The ending thou is incredible. Really exciting.

Bo Burnham's directorial debut premiered nationwide yesterday. I really enjoy his comedy stylings and I am looking forward to seeing his movie. I think it's called "EIGHTH GRADE"

anyone see it?

i rarely go to the theaters because it's a bore, most of the time, but since i enjoyed MI Rogue Mission, i went to see this, my first 3d movie, and i was impressed, somehow, with novelty, but the command to look is all wrong with the direction, and i've concluded that that's why new movies looks so godawful to me...because the command to look is crunched into actor portrayals and blurred palimpsests of backgound noise.

Won't You Be My Neighbor?

the Fred Rogers documentary

1,000,000,000/10

Quite possibly the most positive, uplifting, invigorating, and, at times, humorous movie I've watched in a long, long time.  Lots of moments that tug at the heart-strings, and a few sad moments as well.

GO SEE THIS WHILE YOU CAN!

IT, 2017 film?

or IT, 1990 TV mini-series (with Tim Curry as Pennywise)?

the 1990 one is 9/10 for me, and the 2017 remake was 1/10 I'd say. Just didn't grab me and special efx are overused in my opinion.

Ready Player One

8/10

Entertaining but not without substance, I especially liked the part where they go into The Shining. Spielberg and Kubrick were very close friends, and very great care was taken in this segment of the movie. I was raised in the 80s, so many of the references were directed at my age group, to good effect. Good fun.

I really enjoyed shutter island, I didn't see tbe end coming. Sounds like hereditary it worth checking out.

2036 - origin unknown (2018)

Uhhh... 6/10

Human and A.I intelligence go to Mars to investigate a downed space ship. They encounter alien technology and proceed to investigate.

Hard to rate this one. I didn't see the end coming, and it was something you never see in movies and that made it soooooo amazingly satisfying for me.... Until it dragged on too long and then got boring.

That's the problem with this movie. Real cheap space effects in some spots and horribly frustrating over acting amd cringe worthy script at times, and then at others there's perfect space creepy elegance and twists I didn't see coming. A few times my mind was racing and i paused to walk out a few lines of thought ib my head to try and guess what was happening next. I got into it.

6/10 because I almost rage quit twice, both at the beginning. Mission control keeps insulting the main character saying we don't trust you, yet there was only one human sent and it was the one person you don't trust? Way over emotional lead character, a lot of things in the early plot if you think about you'll realize that would never happen, lazy writing.

PS - i give IT the movie a 2/10.

Not only was it lazy it was insulting to a legends performance (Tim curry, if you haven't seen Clue the movie, based on the board game, you're missing imo his best performance). I found it especially aggravating that when the clown was in the back of the library or wherever it was about to kill the boy that all of a sudden it vanished. So they build suspense, they have  the clown corner the boy inthe library, everything's coming to a crescendo you know hes a goner and then poof. Clown gained teleportation powers when  the plot demanded it? No sewer grate, no window exit, that was the ine and only time it travelled by magic. I found that especially lazy and it fit the whole movie Imo, you can tell they had a few plot points in mind and lazily wrote connecting scenes to string it altogether.

The Secret of NIMH 9/10

This is my GFs favorite movie from childhood. I really enjoyed this movie. Missed the first part of the movie. I really enjoyed the trippy magical aspects. Really creative production. The only gripe i had was the ending was too quick, and there was some continuity issues, like objects disappears from one cut scene to the next.

Overall, trippy ass cartoon movie. Psychedelic Approved :mushroom2:

Tetro(2009)- 8/10

A good drama with classical themes directed by Francis Coppola and starring Vincent Gallo and an adorable Alden Ehrenreich.  Damn the critics who said that Gallo was miscast in this as i thought him perfect for the role.  I'd even go so far as to say that there were some Gallo style directorial touches in this despite being a Coppola flick.  The cinematography and acting were both excellent.  While one may consider a modern B&W movie with occasional color flashbacks pretentious and contrived, it plays off well here in context.  It's a family drama, not a romantic one, and what little ov the latter there is seems to just be a superfluous add-on.  Honestly though, it's refreshing to see a drama without common themes ov romance.  Development ov the three main characters is excellent.  However, while the characters have great depth and emotion and the story somewhat unique, i think that it lacks a certain passionate element necessary to make it great.  I also understand why it flopped commercially; it's not a movie for modern attention spans and gratification.  I found it good and interesting though.

Wow, secret of Nymh! I haven't seen that or even heard of it for prob 20 years. An old favorite I'll have to watch, that's why i like this thread. I recently watched Fern Gully again first time in a decade but it was really dated sadly, the construction worker guy that shrinks and meets all the forest fairies speaks all in 90s slang like tubular and bodacious and things of that sort. It really ruins it for me.

Absolutely! And the DVD (I found mine for $5 at a dollar store) has all the different endings, I had it as VHS growing up and I think u got a random ending, maybe it was professor plum who did it in the lounge with the candlestick. Absolutely a jewel of a movie, even to this day, Tim Curry absolutely made that movie and made it timeless, and let's not forget heavyweights like Christopher LLOYD (doc brown, back to the Future) and Martin mull and several others. Hilarious one liners a plenty and a ton of situational humor. Supremely clever movie, I highly recommend Clue.

******************

End of Watch (2012)

Action genre 10/10
Overall      8/10

I'm still watching this now, I'm starting to see flaws now that I've seen it several times, not flaws but I'm seeing through the ruse into how things work and I don't like that. I notice now how their postures in the patrol car are hunched towards the center and unrealistic and they're constantly framing their face to the central dash action camera, but I never noticed these things first two viewings.

The house fire where they rescue kids I now notice most of the fire is CGI and fairly bad at that, but I never noticed because they walk into the burning house and your eyes are center of frame on them and that fire in the doorway looks super great, it even backlights them as they walk in.

Basically this is a full time POV or shaky action camera while running or dash cam footage as they run people off the road and shoot them up, the movie is a pair of cop partners in LA whogo through absolute hell. It has gang bangers, diamond encrusted berettas and gold AKs, several feel good moments, energetic music, a few looks at the more evil side of drug addiction and pain and death but balances with a super cute Anna Kendrick being bubbly and showing the power of the sacred feminine. And a heavy, proper ending. I find that other good movies i enjoy but dont live are usually missing something but this film is a bit of an emotional rollercoaster, as they should be I think.

But the strongest point I'd say id the chemistry between Jake Gyllenhaal and the Mexican guy I can never remember his name LOL hes a great actor, very funny and in the moment. Relatable. Their banter is hilarious and realistic, two guys live in a car together all day every day. They capture that and all the funny randomness that comes with that.

I typically don't like action movies because they're all explosions. This is a full time action movie with no explosions. Real action, makes me want to be there. Great movie.

Mission: Impossible -- Fallout

9/10

Pretty good action movie. I quite like this series. This one delivers on action sequences that seem impossible to film, a good, sophisticated script, solid directing, and a proven cast. Highly entertaining.

Isle of Dogs 9/10

This was one of the strangest movies Ive ever seen, but it was so well done! It reminded me of Life Aquatic in a way in its utter weirdness. The level of detail was incredible for a stop-motion movie, blew my mind. Great script and plot, awesome voice cast, kooky jokes and interesting characters. Really is a piece of art.

The only issue i had was the incosistency of the Japanese characters. Sometimes the characters would translate the Japanese speech into English but other times they wouldnt. It made it confusing. Maybe it was done on purpose to stick with the "odd" theme of the movie. Not sure but some subtitles would have been nice. Im so curious on what the Japanese version of this movie is like :strokebeard:

Highly recommended and definitely psychedelic-approved :mushroom2:
